A Netflix Community

If you don't have Firefox, then you'll need to first install the program. Here's the link to the download page. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Here's a step-by-step on how to use the Instant Watch feature with Firefox in a quick and easy way. Once all these steps are done, it will work just like if you were using Internet Explorer.

1.Go to this website

2. Click the green Install Now (Windows Button)

3. Follow the directions, restart firefox

4. Go to "Tools", then Click on "IE Tab Options"

5. Click on the Tab called "Sites Filter"

6. Copy and paste this URL including the * at the end: http://www.netflix.com/WiPlayer?movieid=* in the box where it says "URL:", click Add, then the "Apply" button, then "OK" (Link updated: 8/10/08)

7. Go to any netflix page that has the "Play" button, click it and enjoy!

[As of 3/9/08 - IETab won't work in the Firefox 3 beta As of 3/11/08 - Beta 3 delivered an IETab update that works perfectly.]

[This will not work for Linux or Mac]

Do you use Instant Watch?
Then check out the Instant Watch Treasure Hunters group. Also, take a look at the lists of titles with less than 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ratings, as well as a list of titles with more than 1 Million ratings.

YES! Finally a solution that will allow me to view movies instantly. I've been searching the internet for an actual fix to the issue that so many people are complaining about with IE crashing and DRM issues, etc.

Of course I'd love to see Netflix actually get off their butts and fix the problem themselves but having a temp fix is a good start.

Thank you!

I installed IE8 only to play Netflix movies, but for some reason can't even get on the Netflix site with that blasted browser. So, needless to say, I'm thrilled I found this link and your excellent solution to my problem...much obliged!

You're very welcome. I still don't understand why people idolize the IE browser. It doesn't make sense.

will this give me a better, clearer download then the one used by Nflix.. right now I get "determining your video out...yara yara yara...." I watch in mini screen for better reception, I cannot maximize px resolution bad. Thanks for info...

Well, what Netflix gives you, won't be changed at all. When it says "determining...", that is part of the process for watching, it needs to figure out what your download speed is.

I also watch in "mini screen" at times for better reception. Though if you press the "F11" key , aka "Ef Eleven" you'll have a slightly bigger screen without going into full screen.

works like a charm. I've tried using the IE tabs function since I joined netflix and never got it to work. I'm glad you found the workaround.

Now, if only we didn't have to use a workaround at all...
