Ok, I'm in ranting mode. WHY do people rent a film that clearly states why it's rated what it's rated, and then instead of REVIEWING the film, say how inappropriate they found it? I found a comment on a Lewis Black disc that my husband rented about how the comic used vulgar language. UH, yeah. Weren't you familiar with Lewis Black before you rented his DVD? If people can't handle the material then WHY are they members of NF? Maybe they should just sit home and stare at the ceiling. It's called life, people. Get on with it.

You're good, I'm the gatekeeper. Micro is the keymaster. Pihkal is the dungeon master. Him you gotta watch out for. Mort is Minister of Silly Walks.

Awesome! You can hold a concert for them once we get them branded and stabled.

Ah, torture... serves 'em right! Let's see, the first half of the concert will be disco hits sung using my Bullwinkle voice...

Yeah, and a lot of thoughts seemed more inappropriate back then than they do now. Like the fact that we only judge Islam now for the violence and confusion in the Middle East. I just watched a documentary DVD, "Discovering Islam" or something like that, and it shows not only the possibility that we caused all their violent reactions(We landed helicopters on a sacred area by a temple), but the fact that both Islam and Christianity are rooted in the same stories.

Imagine what they'd say about "Blazing Saddles".

Good heavens, do they expect older films to automagically update themselves? It's fine to mention that a film looks dated or hasn't aged well but do it in the context of a larger review.

I watch when the kiddos are in bed... I do appreciate the comments when the films aren't rated, but that's about it.

My 2 cents: it seems that the "reviewers" who complain about media not suitable for children believe their comments will be well-received and appreciated, if not by everyone, by parents of young children. I'm raising a very happy six-year-old genius and the last time I drew the line was at Uncle Ernie, and Tina Turner's acid queen, in "Tommy." Dare I say it: we're all about vulgarity and questionable language in my household ;). It is possible for children to love both the Rocky Horror Picture show and My Neighbor Totoro.

I'm going to make a list of films for smart kids with radically permissive parents :).

Boy, when I was a kid, my mom used to take me and my brother to the movies with her all the time. We saw Blazing Saddles, Sleeper, 2001, lots of stuff. Over the summer of 1973, we saw The Sting twelve times! And strangely enough, neither of us were the least bit scarred by the "adult" aspects of those films. There were a lot of things that puzzled me, but I either asked questions or just ignored the stuff I didn't understand. Made for a lot of A-HA! moments later in life when I watched those films again.

I wasn't always afraid of the adult content either. I believe the first time I saw Mrs. Doubtfire was when I was little and we had the VHS tape. Not to mention, my sister convinced me to watch Mars Attacks with her. And now I'm a guy who's against pointless violence, all prejudice between hell and Huston, and half the things our American media does to make other people seem bad. Not to mention every time we've "Saved" a country from another power, we force them to do something we want(The Panama Canal, The Philippines being our foothold to far eastern business, and that Iraq controls our oil(which is hurting us anyway)) oops! I'm getting off track.lol The point being it could easily be our culture that makes us as protective as we are. It's long past time that we live a little.
