I went old school this weekend and watched Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Temple of Doom to prepare for the Crystal Skull which I’ll see in a couple weeks when the hype dies down. Temple of Doom is still my favorite.
Also watched Spaceballs, it’s a riot and never gets old.
George A. Romero's Dairy of the Dead. Man I was kind of heart broken by it. I didn't hate it and I got the message, but it seemed a little too forced to me, and honestly not as good as Romero's other dead films, I also had a problem with all the CGI head shots. Where's Savini when you need him?
I work from home and have been trying to check out all of Showtimes "Masters of Horror" series on my breaks. I just finished Takashi Miikes episode "Imprint".
I gotta tell ya, I was pretty disappointed. I have watched a number of Miikes films now and I just don't get them. I am a huge horror fan and am not put off by the gore factor in his films, it just comes down to the fact that gore doesn't always equate to entertainment for me I guess. At least not in the way it is presented in "Imprint". The episode pretty much just left me feeling sad that we really do live in a society where there are real horrors that many people have to go through and it is uncomfortable to think about those types of things much less try and be entertained by them.
I don't know what I will be watching tonight, but I bet it will be a comedy. ;P
"I don't know what I will be watching tonight, but I bet it will be a comedy."
This amused me because after I saw Imprint and Miike's Audition I had to watch a few comedies to get back to normal. I think Miike is over rated. I really liked Audition but Imprint and One Missed Call were just OK and I didn't like Ichi and 3 Extremes. However, I have 3 others of his in queue hoping there's another Audition in his work.
I just finished watching Park which according to Netflix features "a juicy ensemble cast including William Baldwin and Ricki Lake". LOL! I don't know about how juicy they are, but it as an interesting movie. Funny and only 86 minutes - great for IW. Although, the sight of Billy Baldwin's butt in see-through boxers is something I could have done without ... at least Trent Ford is shirtless most of the movie.
I finished up season 1 of the Brit TV show "Waiting for God". If you like very gentle, Brit dry comedy and get a kick out of feisty old people, give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up on this one, Fatcat! Almost no one who is likeminded to the rest of my movie viewing would enjoy it.
Oh, I forgot about Waiting for God. Someone in the British Comedy Group mentioned it and I watched a couple of episodes. It really is a fun little comedy. I'll have to go finish that one.
