The Hype Machine for THE DARK KNIGHT

Still a couple weeks away, and the buzz for this one is already off the charts. I've read on some sites and listened to some podcasts that are already touting best actor Oscar for Heath Ledger and even best picture and best director for Christopher Nolan, which would be fairly unheard of for a super hero flick. Some reports say Movietickets.com is already selling out some screenings in major markets.

It's currently at 100% on Rottentomatoes.com. Some critics there are proclaiming it the best superhero movie ever made and even the best crime drama ever made . DePalma, Scorcese, Michael Mann, and now... Nolan?

But that still that isn't saying much. To me the only true Batman is Bruce Timms animated Batman with Kevin Conroy doing the voice. I would have prefered it if it were more true to Timms envisioning rather that Nolan's but still it was good to hear Kevin Conroy do the voice of Batman once again.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Scott P on July 8, 2008 at 4:41pm: I'm doubtful about Oscars, even if it is Ledger's last chance for one. The only place genre films ever get a nod is in effects, makeup, costumes and such.

As for the film itself, I am very excited. LOVED the first one, and even though I am sick to death of the Joker as a character it still looks great.; ▶ Reply to This

Begins had a least a back story to it, character development. I am not say the Dark Knight was bad, but my favorite thing about it was Heath's performance other than that I didn't think it was as good as everybody said it was.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by bjm6971 on July 8, 2008 at 7:00pm: I think with the movies, they fail to capture certain aspects of Batman that are done so well in the animated series such as Batman's great detective skills and his ultimate determination. In the animated version he is always several steps ahead of everybody else and never gives up. In the movie versions he primarily relies on his athletic skills and gagetry.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by mercurio3 on July 19, 2008 at 5:09pm: The new Batman play are a bit more realistic and psychological. it's good that these aren't as cartoonish as the previous Batmans with their color and their comical characters. This batman can't be detective and 100 steps ahead because it's not james bond, that would bring the movie to another level and it will lose alot of audiences. This one has the advantage of attracting audiences that otherwise wouldn't have dare to go see this type of movie if it had been a la Fantastic Four. Including me. It has Action, Psychological thriller, Drama, Comedy and even horror! and lot of character Depth. Action Hero movies usually have one of the listed. NOT all. Good actors signed on to the second part. (thank god they gor rid of Mrs. Cruise) because the knew these wasn't your typical "here have a summer movie now be quiet" type of film.; ▶ Reply to This
