Still a couple weeks away, and the buzz for this one is already off the charts. I've read on some sites and listened to some podcasts that are already touting best actor Oscar for Heath Ledger and even best picture and best director for Christopher Nolan, which would be fairly unheard of for a super hero flick. Some reports say Movietickets.com is already selling out some screenings in major markets.
It's currently at 100% on Rottentomatoes.com. Some critics there are proclaiming it the best superhero movie ever made and even the best crime drama ever made . DePalma, Scorcese, Michael Mann, and now... Nolan?
Saw where TDK just did $66.5 mill in one day. Multiply that by the weekend estimate multiplier of 2.5 and you get $165 million for a single weekend haul. Spider-man 3 holds the current record with $151 mill.
Read a piece that said Mamma Mia actually benefited from opening against TDK. The crowds of people getting shut out by the sold out Dark Knight actually flowed into Mamma Mia giving it a boost that will push it towards a $28 mill opening. Better than they expected.
Sometimes I feel cheap and dirty and used when I contribute to some blockbuster's huge grosses. But I'm glad I took this ride, and early, so other people's yea-saying and nay-saying can be measured against my own response to the film.
I know this is sacrilege in some quarters, but I hated Jack's Joker. So if I seem to be jumping on a bandwagon for Heath's performance, c'est la vie. He was great.
I can't imagine people getting all prettied up to go see Batman and instead they see Mamma Mia. That's an awful transition! But hey, what are you gonna do seems as Batman is the new Britney Spears : everyone's talking about it and can't get enough of it !
Some people seem to be willing to sit through anything. Especially if they are already there. I am pretty open, but not this open. I would probably pick a different alternative.

I would never camp out for a film. is not like there's a one day show.
