What was your favorite movie poster or cover art. What movie had great artwork but was really bad. Have you ever bought or rented a movie just on the poster or cover art?
All the time! It really pisses me off when a movie has an awesome cover and then I rent it and it's nothing like it. Here's a few:
Domino is my number 1 offender - 3 characters holding big guns on the cover of an actionless movie. At least the color scheme was correct...
Drive Thru - The movie is nowhere near as cool as that cover suggests. It barely even has anything to do with fast food restaurants. By these standards, Pulp Fiction could have been named "Big Kahuna Burger"
Madam City Hunter - The main character never ever uses a rocket launcher, there is no city, she doesn't hunt anyone, and the movie isn't all yellow like with Domino.
Domino was actionless?
I'll admit it was a freakin' sulfuric yellow mess, but hardly actionless
["Director Tony Scott's pornographic lust for bloodletting, gunplay, and out-of-control camerawork far exceeds his abilities to tell a story" says the Boston Globe, does that sound "actionless?"]
It's a bad movie full of great ideas that went wildly out of control (maybe deliberately? If so, Scott is a genius!). The script was by Richard Kelly, whose Southland Tales is another ambitious disastrous mess that I love. Go figure~~~~
I love it!
Here's somebody who expresses it better:
Midway through Domino Mickey Rourke complains of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Scott’s unflinching volley of subjunctive flashforwards and flashbacks, hand-cranked shots, flashing, cross-processing, multiple exposures, selective focus, sonic overlays, and tiptoeing subtitles gives the spectator the same level of discomfort and anxiety as Rourke and his “spastic colon.”
Domino works on a constant level of overstimulation, with sudden shifts in narrative range, camera perspective, and sound design. The film’s exposition sets the baseline with its elliptical cuts, farrago of languages (English, Spanish, and Pashto at one point) and ambient sound (a strategic sound bite and close-up of Lawrence Harvey from The Manchurian Candidate muttering, “part drug, part light-induced”), and the jarring shifts from Domino’s opening interrogation with Taryn Miles (Lisa Liu) to Domino, Ed, and Choco’s in medias res confrontation with Edna Fender. Excess rules in Domino as characters fiend for Mountain Dew, overindulge in pornography (Howie, one of the counterfeit First Ladies, muses that in ten years time the United States will reach the saturation point of APATT — All Porno All the Time), unwittingly overdose on mescaline, and blow up an RV and a Las Vegas hotel with C-4 explosives.

I hate Kira Knightly I think she is a terrible actress and the sight of her make me sick but that movie was awesome......it was so good even with her in it so yeah I liked Domino and I didn't find it actionless......
What was your favorite movie poster or cover art. Here are some of my favorite covers on some of my favorite films.
The covers represent the films well. I can't remember renting anything based on the cover but I didn't watch Cashback for a long time because of the cover. Netflix kept recommending it to me but it didn't look good. I read Droidmakers review of it and watched it. Great movie - terrible cover in my opinion. However, once I saw the movie the cover made sense.
Yikes Brody, hope these aren't hanging in your bedroom. It would freak me out for Jason holding a knife to be the last thing I see before I go to bed. :)
