What do you still want to see on the Netflix site? (Let's leave out the obvious few since we know about them and know how much you want them: >500 things in queue, 1/2 stars, mac-based instant watching, linux support, 7-day shipping, etc.)
I would like this also. sometimes heading into a Sat-Mon, you want to manage your deliveries. I'd rather wait for a title, and be able to watch something else.
I agree. Before the film is processed it should be held and an email notification sent that says: "The next available title in your queue isn't available at your home distribution center, but we do have a copy we can send you from our distribution denter located in Bumphuk which could take until sometime next winter to receive, so please let us know ASAP if you'd like us to ship this one now or skip it and move on to the next available title from your home distribution center."
Or better yet an account option you can check off that states "Please only send tiles which are available from my home distribution center." That might might not be realistic tho because you could be one of those people who like watching classic films or obscure independent or foreign films and those films might more frequently come from far away distribution centers. Perhaps you can have a certain radius in which to receive films, like only get them from distribution centers that are within 100 miles, 250 miles, 500 miles...etc. from your home distribution center.
But there aren't any "in stock". They don't have movies just waiting around in a warehouse to send out whenever someone wants one. As soon as a movie comes in, it goes right back out again. When you see "short wait" or "long wait" in your queue, that's Netflix's computers figuring out how many people in your area have that movie out, how long those people typically tend to keep movies and how long others have typically kept that specific movie. It's all very mathematical and analytical and WAY over my head.
But I agree with everyone; I would like to know when a movie is coming from a different state, just so I don't get annoyed when I don't have it on the day I think I should have it.
Yes, it would be nice to know if not control the estimated time a disc will take to arrive. A family makes plans and must make alternate plans (with Redbox or whatever) if Netflix doesn't always collude with our expectations for ETA.
I created a queue for instant watch by putting those films on the bottom of the queue and keep a rated film as a divider between the two. I also use dividers like this for other reasons.
