A Netflix Community

I felt that I needed to post a netflix is awesome thread to counter all the negative spout. You don't have to agree with me -- I'm simply going to say why I love Netflix.

1. Selection. Selection. Selection. Netflix has every movie I want to see. Films I thought were impossible to get are here. I have obscure tastes and a lot of the movies I love are not carried by video stores. No service comes even close to their selection. And member reviews are a nice bonus.

2. I save gas--obviously don't have to drive to the video store. Doesn't seem like much but it accumulates over time especially with $4 gas.

3. Instant Watch-- I don't get annoyed if my DVD's are late. Sometimes they come 1 or 2 days late but I don't care because I have Instant Watch.
I don't watch T.V.- I only watch movies and get my news from the internet. Instant watch is better than T.V.- I choose what I want to see and it's commercial-free. Instant Watch really has a ton of treasures if you put the effort into it. And it will only get better as they make the IW inventory larger over time.

4. I HATE blockbuster. Their selection is awful--1/2 of the time they don't have something I want to see. They are expensive- I was paying $30 monthly for 2-at a time unlimited-with the cost of driving there and back (1 mile). Compare the cost with my Netflix service of 3-at a time monthly at $18-with no spending money on gas-and IW is a bargain and often boggles me how they make a profit off me. Blockbuster has good access to main stream hot new releases (that's the only thing going good for them)--but then if I wanted to rent off of a monthly plan it costs almost $5 per DVD rental which is a total rip off.

It seems to me the only way that anyone should choose Blockbuster/other services is if they only have mainstream tastes -
have no patience to wait for DVD's in the mail-and don't mind the
fact that blockbuster will rip you off.

Yes, I have bookmarked a web-site that offers coupons, But as you can guess I am somewhat cheap (or frugal as I like to think) and am waiting until the very last minute to buy it. But thanks for the PSA!

I agree completely.

In addition to the reasons mentioned, I set up and manage a Netflix account for my mother, who doesn't live near me. She has limited computer skills and, like many, generally only knows about films that are advertised. I've been able to have Netflix send her many films that she would never even have heard of, much less seen, including many foreign language films, and that she has enjoyed very much. Numerous times after watching something see liked, she has asked "how is anyone ever supposed to be able to see that?" And she's right: in most cases, apart from Netflix, very few people would see it.

I have had very little prob with NetFlix. Every now and then I will get a DVD that will not play. Got one last week. Disc three of 24 season 1. Got part way through and zip that was all. They did ship me a new one the next day. And it was fine! At (5) time I am doing ok with Netflix. This isthe first time in a very long time I do not have a NetFlix DVD movie at home. All are in the mail. Three are on the way to me, two going back. I will just rock on with Netflix. As I am a DVD Nut and Laser Disc Nut.
Yup! got and still get the 12" ones... Be well all.

I'm glad your thread is here. Tonight I've become a much greater fan of Netflix. Two days ago my regular computer died. Yesterday I bought a new one which wouldn't download anything. After 26 hours of doing nothing but sleeping and trying to get the new computer working (and 5 phone calls to Gateway--3 were irritating as shit, 2 nice enough but hardly helpful), I went to my old, old computer (the equivalent of a 1948 Nash) after deciding to watch a movie on instant watch. I had to download the viewer and active x things, started the movie and no sound.

Before today, I'd never contacted Netflix customer service. I was beyond impressed. The customer service rep and tech support rep I spoke with were not only competent, not only kind, but seemed genuinely interested in making it so that I could watch a film this evening. I am rarely pleased with anyone's customer service. In fact, there may be a news story tomorrow dealing with a man returning a computer to a Best Buy store in suburban Detroit tomorrow. (Man spontaneously combusts or Hilarious attack of infurated gay man on three shop clerks...) But this evening, I dialed a toll free number, got two people whose accent I could understand doing an outrageously good job.

I wish all companies understood that you only get people like that by treating and training them properly.
