Black Metal is no where near as heavy as some of the other sub-genres, and is probably one of the least heavy types of metal. Harsh, Evil, and fucking kickass it is though.

I guess it depends on how you define heavy, but the terrific combination of atmosphere, harsh vocals, and the blindingly fast thrashing to heavy fucking grunge rocking typical of this genre leaves me to believe that Black Metal is the heaviest genre, but just not the most brutal.

Grindcore/Goregrind would be second as it's a lot more brutal, but lacking in dynamics and atmosphere. These however, are merely my own opinions.

I've been re-visiting Black Dahlia Murder and an 'old' favorite: At The Gates' "Slaughter of the Soul". Bad, bad-ass.

BTW, anyone into Converge around these parts?
