I watched Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon in "Mrs. Parkington," quite possibly the strangest of their many pairings. Both play against type in this one, and Greer spends a great deal of the film in age makeup. Not available on NF, but worth hunting down if you can find it on VHS or TCM.
I saw Prom Night (the new version) and it was horrible! Don't waste a spot on your queue for this one...wait 'till comes to cable.

Watched Big Trouble In Little China as well as They Live, wasn't intending to have a John Carpenter day, just an interesting coincidence. Both movies were lots of fun.
I was going to watch Turkish Superman, but the copy I rented had no English subtitles, so I decided to risk a DVD purchase.
Of all the neo-noirs, this one was my least favorite. It was sleazy without the hip vibe. Even though I think Nolte is great in general, I really struggled to get through to the end. I chalked this up as yet another "Vietnam vets get involved with the drug trade" films. You are right about the transfer, it wasn't very good and didn't help make the movie more enjoyable.
Let's see. My last three were: Mr. Vampire 2, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, and Freaks and Geeks Disc 1. Loved 'em all. Which was a relief after a string of mostly 3 star movies.
Mr. Vampire 2 was just silly fun.
I love films from the 30's and 40's, especially the screwball romantic ones, plus I really like Frances McDormand and Amy Adams, so I couldn' help but be swept away by Miss Pettigrew. A great frothy production. Would make a great play.
I'm just starting on the Freaks and Geeks journey, but it is already the most realistic depiction of the high school experience I've seen. It is particularly resonant for me because I was a senior in high school the same year (80-81) that this dramedy takes place. So the clothes, the hair, the music, the dancing, the keg parties, the cars, the midwest values, the culture, the ... everything, I was there. Dazed and Confused is the only other film that has so successfully transported me back to high school.
There are loads of special features on Freaks and Geeks. I'm going to have to watch some of these commentary tracks with my breakfast cereal. Killers are next on my agenda. Danger: Diabolik (a Pihk recommendation) is on route and The Counterfeit Traitor already awaits my attention.
