Wow! I must admit the new blu-ray charges are annoying. According to an email from NF " As you may know, Blu-ray movies are more expensive than standard definition movies. As a result, we're going to start charging $1 a month (plus applicable taxes), in addition to your monthly membership charge, for unlimited access to Blu-ray movies."

So I will give them they are more expensive - but they have openly admitted they are going to experiment and see if we will accept additional charges. So let's let them know we don't like them.

I'm sure someone is saying $1, who cares... Well, I do. So if you care, let NF know, or else they will find additional items to charge us for. AS for me, I am sorely tempted to cancel my account - its the principal, not the $ amount. Blu-ray movies should cost the same as DVDs. The fact that prices have been artificially kept up, doesn't justify the $ increase for blu-ray. In general, we all make less today then we did 1 year ago, but companies seem to think they can make more profit by adding "charges" to the baseline. How will they make $ when there are no more customers?

Remove the charge NF - even by your own admission very few people have the blu-ray option enabled.

Dude really...

The fact that prices have been artificially kept up, doesn't justify the $ increase for blu-ray.

Netflix has nothing to do with this.

If I had a Blu-ray DVD player, the chances are I could probably afford to pay $1 extra a month for the DVDs, it still beats the extra $10 dollars you have to pay at the store to buy the DVD.

For real? I'm having trouble with your point or argument...

I'm not happy about it either. I agree with you that it's the principle more than the amount of the charge. The reason I signed up with netflix in the first place was because they did not have an extra fee to rent blurays.

Hey everyone been on Netflix for a while like most I am sure and although an extra $1/month doesn't see like alot in the scheme of things,, total of $12/year I immediately revoked my Blu-Ray access as soon as I received their email.

I have to agree with Allison from a seperate posting on here, on this one. Aafter looking back at my queue and seeing that out of all my selections only a handful are available in Blu-Ray after initiating the access it is simple not worth it. If we had access to Netflix's full library in Blu-Ray format so if you owned a Blu-Ray player and wanted to watch Blu-Ray instead I could justify the extra $1 per month, but not for a measly handful.

Would be curious to find out if Blockbuster assess additional fees for their Online Rental program to receive Blu-Ray disc whether through the mail or via the Store! Some how I doubt it... :)

I don't know, but it is worth finding out. I have always been a NF fan, but this really annoys me. You get limited movies, and an extra charge, even if you don't get ANY blu-ray movies in the month. So they are in effect charging you for the right to rent, but not to actually view movies.

Actually, there are many Blu-ray players listed under $200 - the so called price adoption point. Combine the with the PS3 which is an excellent Blu-ray player and there are lots of choice in many $ ranges. That ebing said, my point was principal, not the $1.

Just because you bought a Blu-ray player doesn't automatically qualify you for additional charges. I rarely buy a disc for more then the price of the normal DVD. I wait for sales.

So, you didn't have a problem with the principle of paying out the nose to buy a Blu-Ray player, yet you have a problem with the principle of paying about .10 extra per disc for Blu-Ray? Hmmm... that makes sense... I guess.

Except monthly fees continue for as long as you use the service. Buying a player is a one time initial investment.

At the rate of $1 per month, your initial investment in a blu-ray player will be outweighed by the cost of the discs in approximately 20 years. Sounds like your principle should be directed at the fellow who gouged you for the cost of the player.

Actually I did have an issue, and waited until I got a great deal on a PS3. I didn't go out and pay through the nose.

Perfect solution: disable Blu-Ray for your account. Then you won't get charged an extra .10 per disc.

I guess it's lost on me.

You are an early adopter of a new format.

You chose to buy the format and you knew that it would cost more for the purchase of the product and for the media that is played in said product.

How much do they rent Blu-Ray DVDs for in brick and mortar stores?

I'm having trouble finding any sympathy for your cause here. Sorry.
