I'm in the middle of watching Under the Volcano, but was a bit peeved to read the top review on NF, which is an unflagged spoiler. (It gives the ending away!) I flagged it, maybe interested others can as well.
1st Movie: The Incredible Hulk... One Word.... AWESOME! So much better... There were even shout outs to Bill Bixby and a cameo by Lou Ferrigno (who also provides the voice for the Hulk) and who is much hotter looking now, age has been good for him. Best part without any spoilers... I cant wait to see what the next installment is going to be.
Oh, but Edward Norton really needs to eat something for crying out loud! He looks like he's 90 pounds dripping wet in this film, I mean sure maybe Banner is supposed to be a wimpy scientist, but come on! Plus film is supposed to add a good 20 pounds to your image, so he's way past anorexic. His butt cheeks were sharp enough to cut cheddar in the shower scene!
Rent it... Watch it... Its even worth a long wait in your queue! A solid 4 stars!
2nd Movie: The Strangers... Eh, I don't know... It really didn't do anything for me. I think I have been way over desensitized by todays modern horror. There were just too many things that made me go Huh? What? Why? It was OK, a firm 3 stars by my standard, but I wouldn't watch it a second time.
Knock Knock Knock... Is Bob there? Bob doesn't live here... POUND POUND POUND... Is Bob there? No! Bob doesn't live here... KICK BANG BOOM... I'm calling the cops, locking all the doors and windows and getting the baseball bat out of the closet!
Kid Galahad - A classic sports drama about a fight promoter who finds a diamond in the rough in the boxing world. Predictable & melodramatic, but enjoyable. TONS of extras on this dvd too-trailers, shorts, and three cartoons aka a good evening of entertainment. Sex Pistols: There'll Always Be an England - A recent concert of the punk classic band Sex Pistols(5 sold out nights in London); and it's just ok(only 70 minutes long). There is about 90 minutes of bonus features though; do check out the "Johnny Rotten tour of London". Sisters of the Gion - Supposedly a classic Japanese tale(I didnt see it one bit) about two sisters-one living the modern times & moving up and the other one staying with traditions & suffer. Really dull IMO. Maybe a year or two down the road I'll give it a second look. The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane - One of Jodie Foster's earliest roles, she plays an intelligent teenager with a dark secret; yet the townspeople want to know all about her. Really good thriller and great actors too(especially Martin Sheen as the local creep).
Yep, I found a different version of the poster for "This Gun For Hire." It appeared to be by the same artist, so I cut Alan Ladd out again and thought I'd try this look for a while. I don't think I like it as much, so I'll likely change back soon.
Read your review for Sisters of the Gion. I haven't seen it yet, but what you describe is pretty much what I was expecting. I love older Japanese films, but I've yet to see a pre-war film that I really loved.
Having said that, PB, don't give up on Mizoguchi. If nothing else, please give Ugetsu a try.
