A Netflix Community

Hello. I'm interested in any horror/thriller films that are based on true events. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

henry 2 wasn't AS awful as i anticipated it would be. but it doesn't really compare to the first one. michael rooker was just too good in the role.

Actually the strangers isn't based on true events.

There's a distinct difference between "based on" and "Inspired by".
yep, a perfect example of how one little word can mislead. Then there's Changeling that includes in its tagline "A True Story." And from comparing the actual event to the film, it is very accurate.

That part of the story came to me from a childhood memory. As a kid, I lived in a house on a street in the middle of nowhere. One night, while our parents were out, somebody knocked on the front door and my little sister answered it. At the door were some people asking for somebody that didn't live there. We later found out that these people were knocking on doors in the area and, if no one was home, breaking into the houses.

That's pretty creepy.

Silence of the Lambs' Buffalo Bill is based on a real life criminal but i forget who? Maybe Ed Gein? Maybe not.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is loosely inspired by Ed Gein too.

I live in CT where the based-on true story "Amityville" took place. Somewhere between here and Hollywood, they changed the location to New York. There are some other areas in CT where real horror events took place and are claimed to be haunted. I'm sure if Hollywood or Independent film studios made more pictures about true terrorizing events and psychothrillers instead of fictional, it would make people a little more shaken by the film instead of leaving the theatre saying, "It was just all made up."

wha? I lived on Long Island when Amityville Horror was released, and the papers were full of articles about the real-life Lutzes and their house. Check this.

from wikipedia:

Kathy Lutz (October 13, 1946 – August 17, 2004) lived with her husband George Lutz and her three children, Danny, Christopher, and Missy, for 28 days at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. Their purported experiences lay the foundation for the book The Amityville Horror. The couple were divorced in the late 1980s, but remained on good terms. Kathy Lutz died on August 17, 2004 in Scottsdale, Arizona due to emphysema.

His character was also inspired by Ed Gein, not based on!

Ok whatever :-p lol

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer... West Allis, Wisconsin

He may have been born there but he did all his killings in my state (Ohio). He moved here when he was 8 and went to Revere High School which is about 10-15 minutes from my house. I had a teacher in middle school that actually went to school with him and lived next door. She told us how her brother found this alter like thing with animal bones and a dog head in the woods behind their houses. Also his father teaches at a school where i went to for my media class.
