Does Netflix have licensing to print copies of movies? I have noticed quite a few "grey label" discs. I just assumed that they were licensed reprints by netflix. If they do have the ability to make their own copies, why all the huge delays?

Netflix is not in the business of printing disks. The grey disks are from the studios, printed especially for Netflix to reduce costs. No fancy packaging, no fancy graphics. If Netflix could print their own disks, how would the studios make sure that they didn't print a million copies...after all, the studios want to get paid per disk

So, pretty much, Netflix is too cheap to order sufficiant copies of high demand titles? I guess they would rather listen ( or not listen) to people bitch and save some bucks. Oh well, I guess that fits the (customer service < profit) model of most large corps out there. LOL!!

Nope, they're not cheap. You're too cheap to pay for the monthly fees that would allow them to buy that many copies. I suggest you look into Amazon, they will offer you the service that you demand (but, unlike you, it's not cheap).

If Im "the cheap one", then you are" The one that does'nt send your movies back when you are done watching them because you are LAZY" thereby forcing me to bitch about availibility.
Ain't assumptions great?

"I know you are, but what am I?" Thanks, Pee Wee.

In fact, I am lazy and I return my movies whenever the hell I feel like it. If you weren't a selfish moron you'd realize that that has nothing to do with when you get your own movies.

Hows that?

What is a sufficient number of copies? What happens to all those copies when the demand wears off? And do you think it makes good business sense to always buy enough copies to satisfy 100% of the demand for new releases?

They have to find a way to get product to customers without raising prices. Most reasonable people understand that demand for new releases will cause an inventory shortfall. Can you imagine the outcry if they raised prices so they could purchase 9 million copies of each new release.

What, to make money? The studios have to make money. NF has to make money, and we have to pay money. Don't raise my prices so you can get a new release every Tuesday.

in response to: part 1. No, of course I cant expect that, but, come on, Ive been waiting80+ days for some Popular releases. Part 2. It seems to me that up until this summer, I did'nt have any problems with getting new releases in a timely manner. For example, I received no country for old men within 12 days of its release(after claiming Very Long Wait), and I'm sure that title had huge demand. I guess I,m just frustrated with the slower service I feel that I am receiving. Maybe there is something to the trial members getting higher priority. BTW ive been a member for almost 2 yrs., so it's not that. Part 3. Yeeeeeaaaaahh.....Im sure they are all just scraping by........ In conclusion I guess I'm just pissed because I am one of the poor saps waiting for Dexter season 2 disc 2 !!!!(60+days)

I demand that President Obama give Netflix money so that they can buy enough copies of movies so that everyone in the Country can get any title that Netflix carries at any time. I also think that he should give us all money so that we can all get Netflix. Netflix is not a privilege, Netflix is a RIGHT!

YEAH!!!!!!!! After all, this IS the greatest country on earth! Obama should also make Sarah Palin return all the copies of Maverick. Even the old James Garner ones. Reasearch, research.... George Bush has already paid for my last year of Netflix with the economic stimulous package. With money left over for popcorn and beer! Top That Obama or McCain!!!!!!!

The studios that produced whatever is on there. That is why the selection can be odd, although I think there is some middle-man stuff going on now like NF contract with Starz! it gets weird with digital streaming media because it is new enough they aren't sure how to distribute the funds after the studios are paid, that was a large part of the writer's strike not that long ago. They did finally secure a percent of the profits.

On a side note: I wish the studios would embrace it quicker I love the idea of NF getting a library that my IW queue is bigger than my physical queue, which I can't complain their anime selection on IW is divine. Unfortunately the studios have been dragging their feet because first it was large concerns of piracy which still remain, then there are fights like Apple had with NBC and Apple finally caved and let them price how they want, then you add in DRM fights and more pricing fights and resistance to the idea that many consumers do want to stream straight to their TVs, oh and the internet providers having fits about not having enough bandwith for society to switch over to digital streaming. I think I much rather skip right over blu-ray and go straight to digital streaming, speaking of which all but computers will get HD IW 11/19/08, they are still trying to make it work for computer watchers. *grumbles about having to go buy a gold membership for Xbox, no cost my ass lol*
