Buffy the Vampire Slayer has its detractors, but if you are one of them, I want to know whether or not you actually watched it.

My theory is that people who don't like Buffy haven't seen Buffy. Perhaps because it seemed like a silly concept? Or because they saw episodes here and there, missing the story arc? Or because of a mistaken assumption that it was juvenile fluff?

I was in my 30's when my teenage daughter nagged me into giving BUFFY a try. After the first 2 episodes, I sent the disk back because it was just too silly and stupid. She convinced me that after a not-so-hot start it gets great, so I gave it another chance and was hooked!

So tell me, are you over or under the age 35, and what's your opinion/experience with the show?

FYI, I've started a group about Buffy and Whedon shows that I'd love to have you join. Check it out! http://community.netflix.com/group/everythingwhedonbuffyangelfirefly

I'm a huge Buffy fan and own the series on DVD (Angel too). Personally, I always thought they should have called it quits after season 5; which IMO, was the best one yet.

Then there was this thread about Buffy on another message board, and it seemed many people agreed. We all said how we hated season 6, but then as the thread went on, we all found out a lot of our favorite episodes were in season 6.

I'd have to pull the sets out for titles, but my favorite episode of all was when they all forgot who they were. Spike thought Giles was his father, and when he saw his flight ticket, he thought he was leaving, Anya.

I also liked the one where the whole town broke out in song.

Both of these were from 6, so I guess my original theory doesn't hold water.

I like the singing episode too. The title is "Once More, With Feeling" if I am not mistaken. How is it that I know this, as a casual viewer, while you do not, as a die-hard fan? A true disciple should be able to chapter-and-verse me, no? I am only joshing you.

I am a die hard fan of nothing (except my children). I do love the show, but to be honest, I put the DVDs in and never looked further than that. I never once looked at the titles for Buffy or Angel (or Charmed), and I doubt I'll ever look at any in the future, either.

Forgive me if my remark seemed to be critical of you. That was not my intent. I was attempting to laugh at myself for knowing episode titles, when the show is not especially a favorite of mine. I was sincere when I wrote that I was only joshing you.

Tabula Rasa was the name of the memory issue episode

I am a professional science nerd. I am 40 years old. I gained only fleeting impressions of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" as I surfed past, with "past" as the operative word. At a glance, I could see that the series was far better than typical network television. I wanted to love that series and tried to revisit, periodically, but I was never drawn in. From the entire run, only "Once More, With Feeling" and "Hush" arrested my channel surfing. Those were two somewhat anomalous episodes, I believe.

I recommned "The Body" and "Conversations with Dead People" if you ever want to try again and see a really good episode. The body is intense...there is no soundtrack throughout most of the episode. And it is also the characters in their truest forms.

Conversations with Dead people is just amazing. There is a cameo by one of Joss Whedon's actors Jonathan Woodward (he was in Buffy, Angel and Firefly) playing Holden Webster. It is really worth a look.

I'm curious, did you catch episodes here and there, or have you watched the series in order?

I do understand the merit of committing to a journey with the characters in a series but I draw the line at methods from "A Clockwork Orange" if a series fails to hook me. Life is too short for watching television that is not galvanizing. I would rather get out of the house more. I do not intend this with sarcasm and mean you no disrespect.

In the beginning, when Willow was quiet and unremarkable, she was my avatar among the Scoobies. That all changed when she became a witch. The old Willow was good at finding stuff in the library, which is a skill that I could have offered, a role that I could have played. The new Willow had super-natural powers, which exceeded my ability to contribute, when imagining myself on the team. I lost my place in the group, as if somebody had put a sign in the window: "MERE MORTALS NEED NOT APPLY." That was also right about the time that the level of 'teen angst' began to skyrocket. I found myself visiting the show less and less...

I'm just going to put this out there, not trying to convert you, but feel it needs to be said. The joy of the season 6 finale, is that the world was saved by the average guy. For lack of a better term: The Zeppo.

That's too funny!

It's a shame you dropped out of Buffy, you might have found more fodder for your very clever barbs!
