If you've got one more C-note than you actually need, you can buy this VHS copy of the 1956 feature, which is not currently in distribution in a US version. Or try to win this auction..
It is, and has been Out of Print. It is a DAMN good adaptation of the book and I owned it a few years back, but sold it on eBay. I've seen it on rare occasion turn up used in used cd/dvd stores. Otherwise, if you've got the extra cash laying around, check eBay. Hope this explained it!
I am sooo irritated! I read the book recently.( I was not in the honor classes in H.S., I fact I rarely got to class at all!) As a "well informed" adult I can now appreciate the mind of someone like George Orwell. There is nothing I love better then reading a good novel then seeing the movie that tries to capture it. "Damn Big Brother, Damn him...... Oh,There's someone banging on my door.".................................
Well you can always do the next best thing (which is actually better anyway) and watch Terry Gilliam's masterpiece "Brazil". Gilliam actually intended to adapt the book "1984" but ended up using it as a mere reference, and putting his own spin on things. Make sure the one you watch is 143 minutes. And of course, tell us what you think on here!
