Shows that only had one season or less, but should have lived on for years.
My pick would be Earth 2.
The story lines were well planned out and the characters were distinct.
I loved that it was not another Sci-Fi show that depended on
half-naked women and crazy space creatures that you only saw for one episode.
When I think of short-run, never given a chance but GREAT shows, the tops of my list would have to be Sports Night. The name killed this show, because people who didn't like sports never even turned it on. But this show was hardly about Sports, it just happened to be in a Sports TV Show Studio (think ESPN). Great writing & acting. Entire series only 6 discs, available from Netflix now
ooohhh yeah, police squad, i have it on vhs! i liked "open all night" (nov 81 to mar 82 abc) a bunch of people (losers) who hang out at a convenience store. absolutely hilarious. i really liked "state of grace" (2001-2002 fox family) two girls in north carolina in 1965. grace, a rich gentile whose mother was divorced and self-absorbed (but nice in spite of that) and hannah, who just moved there with her tight-knit jewish family (they were starting a furniture factory, fitting *lol* nc you know) just a gentle little show that i could enjoy with my little girl. another one is "bakersfield p.d." (sept 93-aug 94 fox) the most MESSED up group of cops you'd ever want to meet, a LOT better than "reno 911"
Miracles
Firefly
Threshold: The Complete Series
American Gothic: The Complete Series
Invasion: The Complete Series
Wonderfalls: The Complete Series
The Dresden Files: Season 1
and lastly though it doesn't really fit the theme, I just can't complain about canceled shows with out mentioning Carnivale (2 seasons were not enough!!)
while I really had high hopes for Studio 60, the writers seemed in an awful hurry. For instance, the whole story line about ex-lovers who might still love each other can sustain a show for years, while on Studio 60 they resolved in it half a season. It was a great concept, but Sorkin was trying to produce West Wing Season 5 without the buildup of Seasons 1-4.
Studio 60 alienated a potential audience by mocking Christianity in the pilot episode; word spread quickly among evangelicals to skip out on the show; it was a very bad move to make. As a Christian, i can tell you that we aren't the way we are portrayed by certain people. We are normal people; not just a bunch of brainless hicks with gun racks on the back of a pickup truck. There are Christians in every state of the union; and not all of us are Bible thumpers either. NBC made a deadly error by making fun of a system of beliefs held by a large segment of the population.
