A Netflix Community

I found question/answer in Netflix website:
Q:Can I see subtitles or closed captions while watching movies instantly on my PC?

A:Foreign-language movies watched instantly on your PC will have subtitles. We don't currently provide Closed Captioning, nor subtitling of English language movies, but you’ll find those on most of our DVDs.

This is year 2008... still no available to add a new feature CC in Netflix's movie soft program??? Hey, NetFlix Community... any suggestions?

Netflix has had more than enough time to correct this problem and they haven't made any indication that they plan to in the near future - I think it's time for people to file complaints with the FCC.

FCC doesn't necessarily have authority over this.....

"Correct a problem"? "File a Complaint? Dude, if you are not happy with Netflix, just chose another service! We used to be happy with CD's by mail WITH subtitles, we were suddenly offered to get an extra 10, 12 or more thousand movies for the same subscription rate we had been paying until now, we were not forced to get the box, and you are still not happy? Why don't you go get AppleTV, Blockbuster or else, but please let us enjoy our movies in piece!

Sure. And if a guy in a wheelchair has trouble getting up the steps of a restaurant, go to a different restaurant. Who needs ADA compliance? Let market forces take care of it.

Let market forces take care of it.

Well, yes actually. However, the problem with the scenario you outlined is that it would not be profitable for any restaurant to be fully accessible.

Of course, our litigious society, grossly inefficient government and general sense of entitlement have caused us to take this to the ridiculous extreme that everyone, everywhere must have equal access to everything - rather than taking a practical and measured approach.

Please read this posting by Neil Hunt, who is the Chief Product Officer for Netflix (i.e. all product development reports to him). It talks about the technology behind the streaming encodes and future plans that include captions and other features. To quote Neil:

"Subtitles, Closed Captions, and Alternate Soundtracks

All these features are desired for future releases. Delivering closed-captions via the Silverlight player is probably closest, but it won't be 2008 either."

Wow! One of your BFF's (?) not like Closed Captioned! I am surprised. This person is first one I ever heard from deaf community. Unless that person is preventing that he/she is hearing person (embarrassing being deaf or hard of hearing... I have see some in deaf world).

I love closed captioned even thou I am hard-of hearing (nearly deaf) since after birth.
I can even read lips, too.

I wondering why does NF's CPO Neil Hunt is taken his sweet time on closed captioned?

2McAbre, try to plug your ears or turn the volume off and watch one of your favorite movies (any movies).
let us know how you goes with no sound or miss out their conversions. You will find a lot of misunderstandings.

That is why I want NF get the cc ready for us now.

Anyway, have you ever heard of any deafy trying to read lips off a TV instead of using CC? Who would do that?

Do deaf people really refer to themselves as deafies?

I bet you if they heard regular people saying that they would throw a fit.

Lo,

Impossible to read lips off from the movies. Most of these people in the movies and tv usually don't face the cameras all the times. DeafBeaver

Agree, also, there is a lot of other information in the CC. Like it tells you if there was certain sounds, or music, or it tells you if it is a radio, TV, knock at the door... Just a bunch of stuff that is not just voices talking...

Reading lips from a TV screen just does not work...

Thanks for the reply.
