I recommend the Alka Seltzer cold and flu pills. I don't like to drink normal cold medicine (though it works fast) but the pills work very well with out suffering through trying to drink the medicine.
My old doctor used to say that with medication it takes 7 days to get rid of a cold, without medication it takes a week. All you can do is wrap yourself in blankets, sit back with a big box of Kleenex, watch good movies while drinking something warm and generally be good to yourself.
I usually get a whole bag of oranges, a lemon, and aspirin. I then eat an orange every time I think about it ( usually ends up being about 4 to 5 a day). I drink warm water w/ lemon and honey and then take an aspirin.
I don't know if it is physiological that the cold goes away after about 3 to 5 days of this but it seems to work for me.
Also LOTS of tissues.
Nice long soaks in a hot tub, the hotter the better! Fact if you can, run the shower while you soak (at least till the hot water runs out) letting it hit a wall so it doesn't splash on you (cause it should be really hot water).
The combination of hot soak and steam does wonders for opening up the sinuses, pores, getting the blood circulating, etc. Plus its great for the aches and pains too, if you can get some bath salts (there are two good ones, ones lavender and the other is camphor), try the camphor one...
I can soak just about any cold out of me in a couple days... (Not soaking for two days straight sillies! Soaking for as long as I can each day... I tend to regenerate the hot water once the water heater plinks off ;-)
Yes. Real NyQuil (with pseudoephedrine), Chicken Poodle soup, and Beer. Half a beer if you're a lightweight. This will let you sleep, which is the only cure for a cold.
*no actual poodles were harmed in this recommendation.
