this is ridiculous they are charging me now 4 times as much for blu-ray access? I just removed it from my account, I wish to formally complain to netflix for doing this... even their logic doesn't make sense, yes the catalog has increased, but you are also saying your customer adoption has increased (that means more people who pay that $1 extra for blu-ray. I am aware they need to buy more discs (perhaps) but at a rate of 4 times as much? in the last 2 months only about 30% of my discs have been available in blu-ray ..not quite an increase as they are claiming. They know how many discs in your queue are available in blu-ray, they should charge you equivalent to the your monthly blu-ray usage. This is BS. If they can do it with the bandwith they can do it with the blu-rays.

Let's see...I get throttled when renting too frequently (returning them promptly so that others may rent them), then my BD access quadruples in price, yet BD titles are hard to get.
Perhaps when I have 2 or 3 BDs in hand, I should just sit on them for a couple of weeks to keep them out of circulation. Wonder how that would affect the equation? I can be just as pissy as the next guy, or the next corporate entity.

That's a brilliant idea. Since Netflix is a subscription service, your cunning strategy will result in Netflix extracting the exact same amount of money from you while you get to watch less movies.

I saw the email noting a rate increase for Blu-ray and expected to see another dollar, maybe two, added to the $1. But five more dollars per month for a HD format? Forget it, Netflix. In fact, I bumped my rental plan back down a notch to save even more.
I'll be periodically buying my Blu-rays, I guess. Despite Netflix saying they're so much more expensive, they're really not. And in fact are coming down in price. Which leads to surprise that Netflix is raising the fee so much.
I'm giving serious consideration to canceling altogether. Would be nice to see Netflix work out an agreement with Sony to stream movies to the PS3, too. That'd keep me around for sure. It's all about value for my dollar. $5 more per month for an HD format isn't enough value.
Thats correct... blu-rays anyway are usually highly commercialized movies (which are most likely available at BB or so) then why pay a premium for those movies in netflix? the only reason I have been a loyal (more than 6 years now) customer of netflix is because of their unique catalog of indy, foreign and hard to find films... blu-ray was a nice extra but non of my indy's, foreign or those types of movies are available in blu-ray. IF you are going to charge me that premium you better make the whole catalog available damnit! Like i said.. i just removed my blu-ray access.. and thanks for the tip, I'll go check my bb in the neighborhood to find blu-ray movies.. who knows.. maybe now a days they have the catalog netflix does... and I might just jump out. Thanks for taking care of your long standing customers netflix! outrageous.

Blockbuster online charges about the same for Blu-rays now that netflix will begin charging. I'm not sure about current availability of BD titles in the store though as I haven't been in a store in quite some time. But last time I was there, they were bascially out of all BD new release titles.
This whole thing is a joke. I have always been really pleased with netflix and what they have to offer. I would recommend them to any one I knew if it came up. But this load of crap really pisses me off. I even have the Roku player which makes it all the more difficult to drop Netflix and go to BB. Yes this is enough for me to want to drop my netflix account. I have already disabled BR in my account which really bothers me as I really like BR mainly for the sound. But I guess I will have to deal with it. I hope there is a huge amount of people that disable BR to prove that the people don't like it. Not that a big company like Netflix would actually give two shits about its customers. It would be nice to see them have to repeal this stupid decision.
