I thought it was Susan Hayward, but maybe it's someone similar from that era. The film was about an innocent naive young woman who is sentenced to womens prison (I don't recall the crime) but when she gets out of prison years later, she's all hardened & tough & rough-edged. There's a nasty female prison guard in the movie, she says 'my man likes the way I look'. I thought the movie was called 'The Cage' but I haven't been able to confirm that. I really would like to see it again or at least find out the correct title. Thanks.
Yes remakes piss me off too. Today's youth don't remember the original version and that's how they get away with it, I think. Same thing with song remakes. A few I can think of at the moment are 'Sabrina', 'Dial M for Murder', 'A Star is Born' (loved the Judy Garland version, but the Barbra Streisand version wasn't bad). I think there was an even earlier version but I can't recall who was in it. I loved the Susan Hayward version of 'Back Street'. I love just about everything she's done, esp the one where she played Lillian Roth. I put a few of her films in my Netflix queue. I also just added 'Caged' but I had to get some help from net-members to remember the title. Thought it was Susan Hayward, but it was Eleanor Parker. That's what was throwing me off course.
Yet I'll always go see the remakes, just to see how they turn out.
You guys hate remakes ("pissed" and "disgusted") but prefer the Judy Garland Star Is Born to the ("I think there was an earlier/I can't recall who") Janet Gaynor original, and the Susan Hayward version of Back Street to the (not even mentioned) Irene Dunne original?
