I bought the Samsung BD-P2550, and I have to say that streaming from netflix is horrible. I tried Ratatouille and Surfs Up, but I immediately stopped them both due to bad quality (only one dot on the quality bar).

Anyone else seeing this problem? Is there a fix?

I thought NF had HD streaming.

Yeah, I started streaming on my Xbox 360 this weekend and was very disappointed. Conceptually, I think that they have made huge improvements (much better selection than there used to be and streaming to xbox and Tivo). However, it seems to be that during evening hours (4 - 11 pm or so) that the streaming defaults to lowest quality and there are lots of interruptions while I watch so that the movie can "buffer." I can only assume that this is because their servers are under a lot of demand during that time. I can watch the same movie at 11 am and get the highest quality and really fast initial loading. I checked my download speed during both scenarios and had a consistent 8 MB/SEC connection, so I think that it has to be Netflix servers.

I would say that if the quality does not improve quickly, then I will cancel my membership after the free trial.

That sounds like a viable possibility. I found that some shows stream in the highest quality and look fantastic. 30 Rock and Heroes Season 3 are like this. On the other hand, Enchanted and This Christmas were low quality every time I tried to view them so I stopped steaming them. Maybe Enchanted and This Christmas are on heavily used servers. Who knows. I have had Netflix since 1999 so I will not cancel my membership. I will give them time to fix this as I really enjoy the concept of streaming movies/shows directly to my blu-ray disc player.

Now if only they could stream shows to my iPhone!

A big factor is the source material. Netflix gets the best quality masters for encoding on current TV shows like Heroes. There has been a backlog of encoding work going on for the last few months, as the entire library is being re-encoded for the Silverlight player etc, and HD streams have been added. It's taking longer than we would like to get around to fixing all of the reported quality issues, but we will get to them.

Rebuffering issues at peak times have a lot of regional variation, its a lot more complicated than you might think, and there are ongoing improvements in streaming quality and capacity...

Apologies for any issues.

I can understand the massive amount of work that goes completing contractual agreements that goes into getting movies/shows, changing that media to the required format, obtaining hardware that will house the data and configuring a massive amount of servers and applications to manage all of the requests coming in from end users. Services like this always take time to perfect, and I am willing to wait.

On my Roku player I only get 2 dots and the screen comes out a little blurry. I just figured it was b/c I didn't have the best wireless router. On my flat screen TV it comes out even worse b/c the screen is larger.
