I'm making my way through them as well at a leisurely pace. I've got the first four finished (through Thunderball) and threw in the original Casino Royale just to see what that one was like which was pretty bad.
I get 4 discs at a time so I'm doing one or two Bonds w/ each return. pretty leisurely also.
I realized there were a couple I hadn't seen. Casino Royale is this the original Casino Royale you are talking about?
Did you guys know there was a '50s tv show called Casino Royale? Barry Nelson played American spy Jim Bond, and Peter Lorre was Le Chiffre. I haven't seen it but there are vhs copies floating around.
Bees- The "Casino Royale" original made-for-TV version from 1954 with Barry Nelson and Peter Lorre is included as a DVD extra on the Casino Royale (1967) Netflix disc.
Yes, that is the Casino Royale I was talking about. It isn't an official James Bond movie, just a parody featuring more than one 007. It isn't very good, but I figured I would go ahead and watch it since it came next chronologically. It is pretty much a mess, five directors, Orson Welles wanting to perform magic tricks, Peter Sellers having his own ideas on what his character should be doing. To quote Ebert, "...a definitive example of what can happen when everybody working on a film goes simultaneously berserk."
If I remember correctly, they decided on a parody since all of the good bits from the book were already used in other James Bond movies. It does feature a lot of actors and directors if you care about seeing all of their work for anyone in particular.
Orson Welles, Peter Sellers, David Niven, Ursula Andress, Woody Allen, John Huston to name some of the more prominent ones.
Fahrenheit 451 *** I had seen parts of this many times but never the whole thing at once, I got to watch all but the first 30 mins or so this weekend. Corpse Bride *** It was good and really got better towards the end but it got fairly boring at too many parts to get a 4th *. Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs ***** same old Futrama that makes me lmao.
The Perfect Storm 4 1/2 stars. This is one of those movies i can watch over and over again and never get tired of it. Fletch 4 1/2 stars. Another movie i can watch a hundred times and not get bored with.
Finally saw Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. As usual, Peckinpah delivers a strange adventure with plenty of subtext to chew on. Man, I love Warren Oates.
Audio commentary track is three guys who all knew Peckinpah and have all written critically praised books about him trading anecdotes and film theory. Pretty lively.
