Yes! Finally I watched a great movie. It's been awhile since I saw a movie I thought was worth 5 stars but tonight I watched:
Stroszek - 5 stars +++ (I need more stars for this). I always thought I'd like this since it's Werner Herzog and I think he is a genius and it stars Bruno S, who stared in The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, (what a story Bruno S. has) and the wonderful Eva Mattes. Stroszek is now one of my favorite Herzog movies. I saw this on Instant Watch and I'd highly recommend you see this before it expires Jan 1. If anyone has seen this on DVD please let me know if Herzog has a commentary track on it. NF doesn't list one.
Cry of the Banshee / Murders in the Rue Morgue: Double Feature - 3 stars - On Instant Watch and expiring Dec 31. Banshee stars Vincent Price and Murders stars Jason Robards. I really liked Banshee but didn't think Murders in the Rue Morgue was as good as the original which I now want to re watch to get this one out of my head.
Welcome to the Dollhouse - 3 1/2 stars- I've seen it before but it's on Watch Instantly and expiring Jan 1 so good chance to see it.
Yes, the Stroszek commentary is awesome.
Quoting myself from a recent post on another thread:
"I especially liked his story about how he met the freaky mechanic that he used in the film.
How Herzog had arranged to meet up with Errol Morris on location to try to find the grave and dig up the body of serial killer Ed Gein's mother!! But Morris flaked and never showed and when Werner's car broke down, this freaky mechanic was the dude what towed him. Strange, fun stuff."
Some really good stories in that one. Get the dvd. Hop to it, Aces!
Thanks! Q'd it is.
I first saw Stroszek in '81. Herzog was there to give a talk.

One of my fondest movie mammaries! Ahhhh...
I love Sonny Terry.
...and Brownie McGhee:

Werner is always fun in his selection of music.
Try playing both at the same time!
Last night and into today I watched:
Iron Man it was actually my second time watching and I really enjoyed it, Downey was great as Stark and the special effects were really fantastic.

I also watched Welcome to Collinwood which was ok, I gave it three stars. Watched it for Sam Rockwell and he was adequate.
Abraham Lincoln / The Struggle

Two very late movies by DW Griffith on one disc. The first has Walter Huston in the title role. Both are early talkies--some of the sound is missing from Lincoln, so there's some subtitling. Both are still identifiably Griffith--the visuals aren't as good as his earlier works, but these seem to be a bit low budget. There's tons of silent movie acting going on, which doesn't work with sound at all, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't there. I gave the disc three stars, but if I wasn't interested in movie history, I probably would avoid this disc.
Like Water for Chocolate. It was good, but not great. 3 stars.
Today I watched Jesus Christ Superstar (Again before sending it back), Succubus and Jarhead. Next I am going to continue with the Ghost in the Shell series as well as watch another one of my vampire movies. Though I am going to go through IW and find a bunch of war movies and add them to the queue and have myself a day of War Movies tomorrow I think.
