just finished... No Country for Old Men which i thought was horrible and unesessarily violent. Kung Fu Panda which stands up to its reputation, grat movie. Madagascar one and two which are both great and Deja Vu which is a must see, very good movie
the only Altman i can think of that could be called "horror", though that might not be the best term for it either. a bit hard to follow but beautifully filmed, with a creepy soundtrack and great performances.
I just finished The Women
This is an older movie 1939. (I think) I had read about it in another thread because it has been re-made recently. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about because the original had gotten such high marks by participating members of this forum, and I now know why. I was a great movie. It was catty, well written and held my interest through out the entire film. I felt for the characters, and fell in love with all of them. Good and Bad.
The movie was sarcastic and heart felt at the same time.
Some might say this is a "chick flick" but I disagree. It is far too entertaining to be only enjoyed by females, I would recommend it to anyone who loves movies.
The 30's and 40's fashion is a bonus.
5 stars
That movie allowed Rosalind Russell to move into comedies -- she had to lobby really hard to get that role 'cause she'd never played funny before. Anyway, if you want some more fast 'n' snappy Ros, I think you'd really like His Girl Friday, Jessie.
Foxes - I don't even remember adding this movie to my queue so it was a pleasant surprise when it arrived. It is set in 1979 and covers a few days in the lives of four teenage girlfriends. It features a performance by a very young Jodie Foster who is simply wonderful. The scenes with her and her mother (Sally Kellerman) pretty much are the best things about the movie. The rest of the young actresses are pretty "green" and you can tell that by their "acting" here (it seems like they are mostly playing themselves). Otherwise it's your typical teen movie with the drama and angst those years entail. Still it's got some nice, campy late 70's dialogue and the soundtrack is pretty good so I gave it three stars.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars it wasn't bad per se, but I just didn't like it. It's great animation but just doesn't have the "emotion" of the Star Wars films. My kids liked it though, so it wasn't a total loss.
We went to see Role Models at the theater this weekend. I am a big fan of Paul Rudd and his dry humor so it's no surprise that I enjoyed this movie. It was co-written by him and The State member Ken marino (who also has a small role in the film) and is another one of those "raunchy and hilarious" that keep getting released except that this one is actually funny. :) Paul Rudd can make pretty much any line funny just by his delivery, but Seann William Scott, whom I usually find annoying, was funny as well. The story line is pretty flimsy: two losers that are sentenced to community service in a Big Brother/Big Sister type organization and end up learning from their kids rather than the other way around. But both my husband and I were laughing non-stop so it was definitely a good time. I'd definitely recommend it.
Trinity Blood - beautifully drawn, has a few drag on moments but overall great story, huge battles, deep intrigue.
Sol Bianca: The Legacy: Vol. 3: Going Home - I own the first two discs of this series and haven't seen them in a while, again another beautifully done anime. I just don't know why though I never got seriously attached to this series, I am glad to have finished it but meh.
3 Women: This was suggested to me by a netflix friend. I kind of thought I'd hate it because I disliked Nashville so much (I didn't even finish it). I liked it, but found it a little over my head. I'm still thinking about it though and I think I want to see it again. Loved Shelly Duvall in this. 3 Stars.
Eurotrip: Usually I like movies like this. Just pointless, mind numbing entertainment, but I really disliked this one. I hated all the characters and nothing that they did was funny. I laughed out loud maybe once. And Vinnie Jones? Oh how the mighty have fallen. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood. 1.5 Stars.
I didn't think Eurotrip was *that* bad, but you're right, you definitely have to be in the mood for that kind of movie. It's been a while though so I may have forgotten all the bad stuff. The best thing about that movie was Matt Damon's cameo singing "Scotty Doesn't Know". I thought it was hilarious.
