3 Women-4.5/5-takes a long time to get where it's going, but it's a fascinating trip. it struck me as sort of a mellowed out Mullholland Drive or Lost Highway. i've seen it compared to Bergman's Persona a lot, but i haven't seen that yet so i can't comment.
Just watched Cruel Restaurant Wow, was that ever bizarre. I expected a typical horror movie and got a decent horror comedy with a little sex and nakedness thrown in. Weird stuff but entertaining.
It's a mystery that's is not so much about who did it, but rather about how did he do it. Hopkins plays an awesome smarter-than-thou bad guy, and Gosling plays a charming, somewhat lazy, DA who finds his way.
Movie is somewhat formulaic but with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. The part that bothered me the most was the love interest -- Gosling's smart new female boss -- who falls for him way too quickly. Hello Hollywood, this is a smart woman, who gets to be near the top of large, prestigious law firm. She isn't just going to fall for the first charmer that comes along. That was disappointing -- I think the writer(s) ran out of ideas.
The Molly Maguires 3 1/2 stars. This movie I really wanted to see because the town in which the Molly Maguires came from is only a stones throw away from where I live. While I think the acting in this movie was great I think it lacked a little in the actual events of what really happened in Carbon County. But this movie wasn't based on a true story at least I didn't seen anything that said it was. There is historical facts that are in this movie though. I guess my expectations were high, but don't get me wrong it's still a pretty good movie. Pan's Labyrinth 4 1/2 stars. This was one of those movies I wish it wouldn't of ended when it did. I really enjoyed this one, a great piece of foreign film. State of Grace 3 stars. Pretty good gangster movie about the Irish-American mob in Hell's Kitchen NY. Balls of Fury 3 stars. I only watched this one because Maggie Q and Christopher Walken was in it. It was ok a couple of funny parts in it, i've seen worse comedy's.
The Stink of Flesh because I wanted to watch one of the horror movies listed in my IW queue--oh boy was that the stink of something. Hmmmm...HORRIBLE movie maybe. Zombie torture/rape and wife swapping...yeah!
The Dark Knight Because I wanted something to watch with the family but the older kids bailed, the younger fell asleep. I guess I'm one of the old school Batman fans because while this was fabulously done and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I missed the "fun" of the earlier films.
I have The Dark Knight at home also. The running time keeps putting me off. Everyone's been going on and on about how great it is. Does it feel like 2.5 hours or does it go by fast? I'd really like to watch it in one sitting.
I don't think it felt like 2.5 hours, I thought it went pretty quick actually considering we kept getting interrupted so it took more like 3+ hours to watch it >.>
Yeah...hate to offend any die-hard Dark Knight fans but this did feel like 2.5 hours and there were a few "talky" bits that could of used some speeding up but it was worth it, at least once. The kids all bailed at the 1.5 hours mark (or fell asleep as my youngest did). I would recommend one sitting and just watching it all.

This week I've seen: Murders in Rue Morgue / Black Cat / Raven - 3 stars Hatchet 3 stars Cube 2 - Hypercube and Cube Zero - both 4 stars - I've seen these a couple of times and always like them but Cube 5 stars - is my favorite of the trio. Masters of Horror: Lucky McKee: Sick Girl 3 stars The People Under the Stairs - 3 stars Trust - 4 stars The Great Ecstasy of the Sculptor Steiner / How Much Wood Would a W... - 4 stars - This is 3 documentaries by Werner Herzog.
(1) The Great Ecstasy is a doc on ski jumping or ski flying champion Walter Steiner. The photography of Steiner ski flying is amazing. This was a 5 star documentary.
(2) How Much Wood Would a Woodchuck Chuck? is about a cattle auctioneer championship and I had to fast forward - too many auctioneers calling. I'd have enjoyed it more if Herzog gave more information on the people. 2 stars
(3) La Soufriere - 5 stars - If you like Herzog you must see this. Hearing that a volcano is on the verge of erupting Herzog takes a team to Guadeloupe island to check it out. Great photography, human interest interviews with the 2 men they find in the deserted village and a dangerous trip to the volcano. This is only 30 minutes and on Instant Watch.
Kiki's Delivery Service - 4/5 Fun family film that I definitely enjoyed. I'll most likely pick this up as a gift for some younger people on my gift list this year.
Envy - 2/5 Didn't expect much going into this one, and really that was pretty much all I got. This one just falls flat, and there really isn't much worse than a comedy that isn't funny.
Secretary - 3.5/5 This was an interesting dark love story that involves sadomasochism. It is certainly memorable and Maggie Gyllenhaal did a great job with the role.
The Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection Vol. 1 (Disc 1) - Includes Safety Last, An Eastern Westerner, Ask Father, From Hand to Mouth, and Girl Shy. I enjoyed the Ask Father short and Girl Shy the most on this set, but Safety Last is probably the most memorable for everyone because of the clock scene. They are all worth watching, this being the first time I've seen any of Harold Lloyd's work. I also want to comment that the quality of film/transfer is quite superb coming from this time period.
