Coming soon from an auteur near you
I thought it might be interesting to have a discussion thread where we could keep track of new movies from our favorite filmmakers. I think the two movies I'm looking forward to the most as the end of the year approaches are Burn After Reading and Synecdoche, New York. Burn After Reading looks like it'll be another Coen Brothers romp in the spirit of O Brother Where Art Thou and Raising Arizona. Synecdoche, New York will be the directorial debut of Charlie Kaufman, and it is sure to bend the brain far more than Eternal Sunshine, Adaptation, and Being John Malkovich combined.

I think he's up to his elbows with being a genius. I don't expect to be able to get the fullness of Synecdoche, NY the first time I see it. It looks like it could be so layered as to require multiple viewings. And I'm looking forward to each one.

I know there are plenty of Woody Allen fans hanging around here, but I can't really claim to have been numbered among them. That's not to say that I've lacked a measure of appreciation for his work, though. I at least try to keep up with what he's up to. I saw Vicky Cristina Barcelona this week, and loved it. Javier, Scarlett, and Penelope are pitch-perfect together. Spain is as alluring as ever. I think this movie immediately gets ranked among my five favorite Woody Allen films. Has anyone else seen it yet?
