In director Brian De Palma's 1989 Vietnam War drama, soldier Michael J. Fox suffers a crisis of conscience when the men on his patrol rape and murder a Vietnamese girl and then try to cover up the crime. A disquieting film based on real events (chronicled by Daniel Lang's 1969 piece in The New Yorker), De Palma's uncompromising tale of brutality and the dehumanizing effects of combat co-stars Sean Penn as a vindictive squad leader.
