A Netflix Community

This thread will be for instant watch titles that are unexpectedly removed. For example no expiration was ever provided prior to the selection being removed. I'll start with the ones that this has happened to in my list. Any title that is added back to instant watch can be removed.

Batman Forever (1995)
The Couch Trip (1988)
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)
The Protector (1985)
Birdman of Alcatraz (1962)
The Contractor (2007)
Black Robe (1991)
Archives of War: Vol. 2 (1998)
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Extended Edition (2002)
The Gospel of John (2003)

I'm certain just this last week (near end of jan 2009) or a little more all three of the lord of the rings extended edition titles were indicated as new to watch instantly on netflix's new to IW RSS feed. So I'm baffled as to why they are not.

I just noticed Legend was back -- updating list. I checked pink panther and it is still IW unless it is like a couple others I encountered and fails to play?

Added the Gospel of John. This one was added and shortly after removed. The strangest one yet. It showed up as new i added it to my queue and must have been removed from IW within days. As with all the others no indications at all or reasons given for removal. Hopefully it will get returned because it is otherwise not available.

Navy Seals (1990) is currently removed but this time I know why. audio sync issues. It is being looked into so I assume it will be returned to IW as soon as it is resolved. Of course this led me to have to report a problem to netflix and that was a boat load of customers giving the movie one star because the IW encode sync issue rather than rating the actual movie. To which they will be looking into what action needs to be done to correct potential damage done to improperly reflect the true average rating. If only people wouldn't improperly use the written reviews and also star reviews it'd save them time, effort and money to not have to clean up the messes. I don't know how many countless written reviews I've had to flag as not reviews because of this sort of thing.

MachZero, good evening, it truly is bad when people rate a movie based on audio quality and then write a review about the bad quality of the audio or what not! I created a group that is an attempt at fixing this problem - http://community.netflix.com/group/nonreviews - I invite you to join!

Going to check it out thanks for the info. Has anything come of the effots that you are aware of. The main problem with the title I just pointed out is not so much the written non-reviews but the massive impact of a large percentage of people rating 1 star because of a technical fault in the IW encode.

Regarding efforts - I just created the group and have yet to see what comes of it. With the eventual continued activity from everyone, hopefully there will be a major cleanup.

You can't help how people decide to rate a title for any reason whatsoever. With reviews however, it's much more visible, and much more can be done by members.

Are we continuing in updating this list?

Here's two more:

Casualties of War (1989)
Mockingbird Don't Sing (2001)

Checked above list, all still n/a.
