A professional con man (Nicolas Cage) struggling with an obsessive-compulsive disorder meets the daughter (Alison Lohman) he never knew he had, inadvertently jeopardizing his very organized and artificially controlled life. Sam Rockwell plays Cage's partner and protégé in the con man business, and Melora Walters plays Cage's ex-wife. Directed by Ridley Scott and based on Eric Garcia's novel of the same name.
Decidedly different from any other Ridley Scott film I've seen in that it is low on action and suspense, but not bad. Though labeled a comedy, it is more of a quirky drama. The pacing is a bit slow, and the obsessive-complusive behavior of Cage's character gets old really quickly. The twist is easy to figure out; the pieces fall into place just a bit too simply. The acting is decent, and the story is interesting despite of its lack of surprises. An average movie that I would probably not watch again.
