Comic genius Mel Brooks strikes back in this spoof of the Star Wars trilogy. When the nefarious Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) hatches a plan to snatch Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) and steal her planet's air, space-bum-for-hire Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his clueless sidekick (John Candy) fly to the rescue. Along the way, they meet Yogurt (Brooks), who puts Lone Starr wise to the power of "The Schwartz." Can he master it in time to save the day?
A few laugh out loud moments and lots of chuckles equals a good comedy. Mel Brooks is known for this type of screwball comedy, and this is a fine example of why. The timing on the jokes is perfect, and only a few of them fall flat. Watching this again made me realize how much I miss John Candy. Good fun.
It was just OK for me dog, nothing special. Nowhere near the quality of comedy of an Airplane or Police Academy film. People who say it's great just haven't seen enough movies to know the difference.
