How about Netflix sponsoring film festivals with Instant movies?
These would focus on specific themes or people, such as Paul Newman, Alfred Hitchcock, or War and Peace.
During the "festival," which might go on for months, special discussion areas would be set aside to discuss the themes and movies that are part of the event.
Netflix could make some movies available that otherwise wouldn't be for instant watching.
Perhaps members could VOTE on what the upcoming film festival would focus on -- Netflix could provide a series of topics, and the one with the most votes would win.
The exact rules for the film festival? Well, they could take different forms, and they could change depending on what was most popular. I think that the basic idea is a good one.
Netflix could publicise the existence of these film festivals and use them to promote Netflix.

First off, welcome to the community and welcome to the group specifically.
How about Netflix sponsoring film festivals with Instant movies?
Well, with so many titles available and with knowing when they'll expire via the Instant Queues and the list of expiring titles we can do this without Netflix proper.
These would focus on specific themes or people, such as Paul Newman, Alfred Hitchcock, or War and Peace.

A Netflix list can be created with the titles that we'd be looking to watch and of that, those that are available we'd focus on. Netflix can only make available for what they have permission for, and able to do.
Topics could be decided via a vote from the members of the group as a whole.
I think that the basic idea is a good one.
I really like this idea too, and would like to see something like this happen.

This is a great idea. I love watching movies on a theme....specific country or director for instance. Turner Classic Movies schedules around a director or star for a month. If Netflix went with a similar idea and made a festival available for a limited time, I think it would be fun to do in IW.

Since Netflix doesn't offer outright the expiration dates for each title, we would need to do it all on our own. It could easily be done with what's currently available and since for those titles expiring, we'd know about it before - because it would be sitting in our Queues.

I really like this idea. It's something we could get going ourselves. Maybe start a thread where people nominate a theme with 4 or 5 movies and each month we could pick a new theme. Either by voting or perhaps, the people who nominated a theme would get a turn choosing the next months theme. Then we could start a thread focused on that months theme, where we could talk about the individual movies and the theme in general. In any case count me in for doing something of this nature.

Oh yeah, definitely. A couple people a movie watching club do not make. I'm hoping more people will come along and express interest in some kind of club, either made by us or Netflix.
