Spiral - Joel Moore proves he's not just a Jon Heder clone, and director Adam Green proves Hatchet was a fluke. Amber Tamblyn is as cute as ever in this movie that is very un-cute. Moore makes WILLARD look like Regis Philbin. ****
Wizards of Waverly Place - Season 1 - Clearly created with a younger audience in mind, but let's face it - much like Vampires, wizards and magic tend to capture attention from older people in the process. The show can be silly at times (And the laugh track is very overbearing - you have to just get used to it), but in the end, you get hooked, and want to see these characters get older and learn more magic :) It's just fun to watch; and until we have a Harry Potter TV show, it's the best we're going to get. ****
House on Haunted Hill - I guess in 1999, I actually saw the OTHER haunted house movie where a group of idiots stay in a house they clearly shouldn't be in. I don't even really have to watch The Haunting again to know that it's better than this movie. House on Haunted Hill is as cliched as these movies come, and it was a hilarious reminder than in 90's horror, fast moving head motions were the only way you could be scary. Oh, and playing whispering voices back in reverse. I just want to punch William Malone in the ear. He followed this crap up with Fear Dot Com, so clearly he was just honing his technique, making it worse as he went along. *
Indeed... I think the show got better in season 2, and grew as well. The werewolf scenario was excellent, and I especially loved seeing a certain Dexter castmember at the end of season 2 (hope she's a fixture).
The movie somehow delivered, and was amazing in its own right. I wish they filmed the show in a similar style (no more laugh tracks, nice multi-camera angles, dynamic lighting).
Anyway, season 3 will be here this month, and I'm pretty excited. If they're learning their lessons, it should be the best yet. I no longer feel guilty to be watching a Disney channel show that's ostensibly created for young adults (a different league than Disney films).
