I don't think there needs to be a limit as much as that it should not be a factor in the ranking, or at least not that high. The friends limit, well, once you have more - then wouldn't be almost impossible to keep up? I don't use the feature, so I wouldn't know.
I agree with the friends limit. It is definitely too low. I only have a few more spaces left and I know I won't be creating a sub-queue to add more. There's no way I could keep up with two. I need everything in one place. I'll probably do a roll call like someone else on my list did and then politely (hopefully) take the ones that don't participate off to make room for ones that would like to join and be active. The limit does need to be higher. I want tobe on Film Grrrl's list! LOL
(sigh) I'll say it again. I think The Professor's film lists are at least as interesting as most people's "reviews" on the NF site. Maybe we could have a cut-off of 4 reviews per film which mention whether or not "my husband fell asleep"?
Here's another tip. If you don't like the lists, don't read them! That's how I deal with the majority of reviews.
As far as "friends and faves" -- I believe JoeofTexas has The Colonel beat. I'm not sure whether he's the all-time champeen in the category, though.
Thanks Bees. I was upset by the comment at the top, so I really appreciate you writing that. That comment suggests that everyone is simply out to improve their reviewer ranking, which is not the case with me. My Oscar lists were in place BEFORE Netflix implemented the current ranking system. I think the reviewer ranking system is interesting, but it wouldn't bother me a bit if it was dismantled.
I've actually been thinking over expanding the Oscar lists, but have been having second thoughts since some people think I'd be doing it to bump my ranking.
I wanted to see how Netflix would respond with recommendations since they were recommending movies in genres I would never watch. Well after doing this my recommendations have become WAY more in line with my viewing habits. And yes I did do whole genres of not interested. I don't watch anime, bollywood, 99 percent of sports or cartoons. I think what started it was they kept recommending WWE wrestling videos and I was getting irritated so I realized I would just "not interest" all of them. It actually took me a day to realize that counted as a "rating". I sat and went through lots of titles and found alot that seemed interesting at the same time. So now when I go to "classics" I see what I might want to see at some point instead of movies I know I will never watch. It actually has helped in picking movies. Yea it does take some time but it has helped immensely in streamlining what I see on the site. I have not gone through the complete selection of movies they offer but I think I got a good start hehehe.
