Did you guys notice dramatic changes in your RR a couple of weeks ago? Did that represent a permanent tweak to the RR formula? I have a couple of buddies who noticed improved rankings of 200 plus spots in that week while doing the same things per week while originally ranked in the 500s and 900s. Mine improved that week as well by 260 something ranks (originally in the mid 500s) while sticking to the same routine.

It was weird because before that I've been bouncing up and down the 500 to low 600 ranks for months previously

I know that mine hasn't changed all that much - point or two at the most each week. Nor has the top 100 changed all that much between the two updates with the first one from about 4 months ago.

I've been going up and down in the same 5 to 10 point neighborhood for months -- up 2, down 3, up 4, down 1, and so forth.

I've been bouncing up and down less than 10 pts since may be 2 months ago, after a long period of stability.

Hmm. The case that I just mentioned must be just a coincidence. Then again I also heard from a buddy that was around (5000 in rank) who took a few months off the using Friend features who got bumped into the 1500s ranking. It's just weird, and am I right in assuming that 200 plus rank improvements while in the 500 to 900 ranks are massive?

Thanks Wowee, Beeswax, and Eviltimes for sharing your observations.

If you figure in that there are over 7 million members with a ranking number, then those in the top 10,000 are doing very good.

Wowwee, I will have to slightly disagree with you on that one. I only consider those within the top 100,000 to be counted among active NF Friend & Community users. The rest are inactive or most likely not remotely interested in the feature. In any case, those in the top 10,000 are doing good.

So what do you think about the explosion if activity among those making reviews and lists? Or do you consider it an increase in activity or just part of a cycle of people becoming new list/review makers displacing less active ones?

I'm still trying to figure it out - just like everyone is too. It's very possible that new lists and reviewers are displacing less active ones, but that may be just a tiny fraction - haven't seen anyone do a numbers test on that. Also, there are a lot of reviews that aren't and they are possibly getting the credit of a review - until enough people flag them, report them for others to flag and when they are ALL removed (fat chance) perhaps, the numbers will reflect a truer one than what it is now.

Netflix needs to remove those reviews pronto instead of waiting for X people to flag them.

I'm not holding my breath that the non reviews and false flags will be fixed anytime soon. Didn't NF took a while to fix the almost unlimited (okay, one per day) helpful/not helpful one can give to a review years ago?

Anything that doesn't make money and costs- takes a while.

From the POV of NF, I can understand. If the mess gets big enough that it might cause a bigger effect on customer satisfaction (e.g. disappearing subprofiles), I have little doubt solutions would be offered. In any case, it won't cause me to cancel my subscription.

That's fine but do the math: If every member had just a 2-disc plan that's 7 million members times $13 a month, right?

Well, Jeez! I was ranked at 230, then one day a few months ago, for no reason I could figure, I was bumped to #1530! I have written more than 800 reviews since I joined, in Oct 2005; I've got 6 lists, and 109 fans...and I haven't slowed down writing reviews, just acquired more fans and a couple more friends. I've never been flagged for any review, although I have racked up a small number of "not helpful"s when I've slammed some dog with a sarcastic review...but I'm honest, and some find me funny. Since that big bump, I've slowly and laboriously worked my way back up to #647, but I am dispirited. Anyone else experience anything like this? Reviewer SP 442842
