I've enjoyed a lot of films but the one that may be my very favorite is Powwow Highway.
A Martinez plays Buddy Red Bow (but not the singer Buddy Red Bow) and Gary Farmer plays Philbert Bono. They take a road trip to get Buddy's sister out of jail. Philbert believes the trip will bring him his Vision Quest and the path for him to become a warrior. While the Martinez character is in a hurry, Philbert is on Indian time and the adventure gives the viewer some beautiful moments for laughter and tears. Both actors are excellent in this movie but I think Farmer should have won an Oscar for his performance. If you haven't seen this I highly recommend.
I like Gary Farmer too. Actually, I have a massive list. Just a few, though. I love Adam Beach (who doesn't), Wes Studi, Graham Greene. I've recently fallen in love with August Schellenberg. I used to really like Eric Schweig, but he's not as attractive as he once was. Poor guy. I enjoyed Skins, Thunderheart, Dreamkeeper, Smoke Signals ... Just watched "New World." Horrible. Anyone else seen this? Opinions?
I've heard of this film, though I have never seen it. It sounds great though and I will definately make it a priority. Well, I think you already know who my favorite NA actor is, but just in case it slipped by you, EDDIE SPEARS. He may not be ready for Shakespeare any time soon, but he is still my favorite (even though it may have little to do with his actual acting abilities!LOL). I have a long list of favorites Q'orianka Kilcher (I thought she was excellent in New World, sorry Bohdhi Grrl), Irene Bedard, Sage Galesi, Delanna Studi (Wes Studi is her uncle), Sheila Tousy, Wes Studi, Michael Greyeyes, Eric Schweig, Nathaniel Arcand, Nathan Lee Chasing Horse, Gordon Tootoosis, August Schellenberg, Adam Beach, Michael Spears, Russel Means, Saginaw Grant, jeez I could go on for days!
I love Eddie's films, but my all time favorite would still have to be Dance Me Outside. There is something so endearing about the characters and the struggles they go through in this film. It's a great mix of drama and seriously funny humor. Some of my other top faves are The Last of the Mohicans, Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee, Dreamkeeper, Into the West, Smoke Signals, Skins, Skinwalker, and Black Cloud. The soundtrack for both Dance Me Outside and Edge of America are great as well.
Great topic! Thanks CHawk
