I find most Doctor Who fans tend to introduce themselves with the inclusion of their favourite....

For me I find it very hard so I shall not choose one, no, instead its 4, 9 and 10 with a honourable mention for number 8 who I believe could have been great if not for the terrible movie he had been put in.

Wow, that has always been a hard choice for me to pick a favorite Doctor but I would have to say that my favorite is Tom Baker since he is actually one of my earliest memories. At the ripe old age of 24 I remember being around 3 years old and watching an episode with him as the Doctor and eating a hot dog for dinner, weird I know but its my memory! My second would have to be a tie between Peter Davison and David Tennant. I think that they both show very human qualities which I like in the Doctor and come on Celery on the lapel is just fabulous! I liked Christopher Eccleston because he was, in my opinion, perfect to bring back the Doctor. I also liked that he was only the Doctor for a season because it allowed new fans to see that the Doctor is a constant no matter who he is played by!

I would have to go with ... this order of Doctors

Tom Baker, Eccleston, Tennant, Troughton, Pertwee, Hartnell, Davidson, Colin Baker, McCoy

Paul McGann, the 8th Doctor in the 1996 movie.

Oh Isee, that is probably why I couldn't remember who I was missing, because I haven't see the movie. Thanks!

Umm...I saw the whole thing from the beginning...thanks to the local PBS (that is, those that were extant).
Still, my list goes as follows;

T. Baker, John Pertwee, Pat Troughton, McGann (had he been chosen full time for the BEEB, yeah, I know...U.S. production), Hartnel, McCoy (It was just most of his scripts that sucked), Davidson, C. Baker, Tennant, Eccleston.

And yes, there's something a little off about Tennant. could be he's actually Welsh and speaks in an English accent only for his role as the doctor. He's o.k., I just don't like the current producer, and have given the show up for dead, at least for now. I know that these new series are enornously popular, but I had reservations from the get go. JMHO.

Tenant, Tom Baker, Troughton, Eccleston, Hartnell, McCoy, Pertwee, Colin Baker, Davison. Never saw the '96 movie, so I can't say anything about McGann.

I like Tenant for many of the same reasons I like Tom Baker; it's a close race. They both have a sort of wry, puckish quality that adds a lot to the humor of the show. Troughton has some of the same, though he's a bit more professorial. Eccleston played it more tough, kick-ass-and-take-names way, a sort of Dirty Harry Doctor. Hartnell was gruff, like someone's grumpy grandfather (well, yeah). McCoy had his moments, but he was a bit too clownish and wimpy, too. Pertwee doesn't do much for me; he's like a Gallifreyan Liberace, and the fact that he was stuck on earth for most of his time didn't add much to his tenure. Colin Baker was flat, and Peter Davison's doctor I found outright annoying most of the time. Too much of an "everyman." A good doctor needs a dose of superheroism, and I never found Davison to be believable in the role because he didn't have it.

I've been watching Doctor Who since 1975 or 1976. Tom Baker was the first Doctor with whom I became acquainted. He'll thus always be The Doctor for me. Still, Tenant has done an amazing job with the character in my opinion. I don't know anything about the new guy, of course, but Matt Smith has some very large shoes to fill... I don't envy him the task. He might well do a great job of it, or he might run up against the same problem that Davison had coming in after Tom Baker. Guess we'll see.

I always thought it would be Tom Baker, he was my first as well, and clearly the heart and soul of the character, but I've got to give it to Tennant now. He has moved Dr. Who into the 21st century.
