Leela was the BEST Doctor Who companion as she could play up the Doctor's smarts and also stand by herself physically. She did make it all the way to Galifree!

Its easier to pick the "least favs", but if I have to narrow it...

Susan, Leela, Romana 1, Sarah Jane, Teagan, Jamie and Ace.

New series... Donna and Jack.

Best narrowing I can do. ;-P

donna... she just wasn't afraid to speak her mind... right from the get go...

didn't take any time at all to get used to him... well aside from that horrible christmas wedding... which was actually good for her health in the long run...

*love the running bit*

I've heard of Dr Who for a long time, but am a relatively recent viewer. I've only seen the new series with the 9th and 10th Doctors (seasons 1-4). Of Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, and Donna Noble, my favorite companion was Martha. She was perfect for him, she really seemed like his wife. Too bad he came on strong with her, then backed away quite a bit, until she caught on to his attitude and left him for greener pastures.

Of those three companions, the most improved is probably Donna. She was in a bad way in the wedding episode, and the Doctor helped her grow tremendously. I understood her not wanting to go with the Doctor at the end of it - it was extremely stressful. I'd feel the same way. I'd like to say "Oh yes, I'd go with the Doctor in a heartbeat if I could", but the truth is, it would be way too taxing. It wouldn't be fun at all for me, or the fun would be minimal in comparison to the hell of the dangers I'd face all the time, etc..

Leela; memorable lines written for her, sax appeal, doesn't hesitate to come out cuttin' and kickin' ass.

Romana 1; beauty and brains, too short lived tho'...

Sarah Jane; charming, self confident...

Jo Grant; cute and sometimes clever.

K-9; comedic potential, fun voice (Leeson's anyway...).

"The Brig"; a doofus with real power.

Nissa; cute, and brainy.

And, oh yeah! Mel; Man could she scream! But I was so happy that Who was back, I would have welcomed a walrus in the companion role. Anyway, I felt she had that quality that the femme fatales of the silent screen had (which is what--I think--the producers had in mind when they created the role) , plus she was exceedingly cute. Got an eMail from her once after writing, and she invited me to come see something she was doing in the West End, if I was 'round that way. My ten second brush with fame...

Least fave;
Romana II; she didn't seem right for the part, and seemed as if she'd be more comfortable in the "theeataa".

Peri; the only things she had going for her arrived a split second before she did, which is shallow on the producer's part...

Mickey Smith; WHAT did Rose see in that wuss? More annoying than Adric.

Ace; a walking cliche of the day.

Turlough; bloody useless, I'd have given him the boot early on.
