I'm always on the lookout for good Sci-Fi I haven't seen yet -or at least that I haven't seen for a while.... Let's help each other uncover some of the hidden treasures!

The Last Starfighter was a fun 80's scifi movie. Some of the special effects were kind of old school, but it is still watchable.

I mentioned as a response in another thread that Night Watch and Day Watch were both good. But I'm easily swayed by amazing special effects. I just want to be entertained and I don't care if it's only by a great story, snappy dialog or just snazzy fx.

Not a movie, but I'll mention it anyway... I'm completely hooked on Torchwood. And of course Doctor Who. I tend to like scifi with good story lines and even better characters (SG1, anything Whedon, etc.) so I haven't really been drawn to many scifi movies lately. I'm looking forward to seeing if anyone else has any suggestions. I've been watching a lot of horror and thriller movies just waiting for that special scifi flick to come along. And I'm getting bored!

I was really torn by Night Watch/Day Watch. I liked them and disliked the at the same time. In both movies I felt like I was only getting half the story. Like the books had all the answers to the questions and if you didn't read them, you were screwed.

I felt exactly the same way WhiteNoise! I kept changing their netflix ratings between 2 & 3 stars... Until I figured out how to give 1/2 stars :)

I'm addicted to Torchwood also! I like it MUCH better than Dr. Who. It may be a spin off, but everyone should give it a chance regardless of their opinion of Dr. Who. It just has a different feel to it. I am waiting with bated breathe for season 2 to come out on disc. I hate that it just aired, but I don't have any way to watch it.

I also love Dr. Who and Torchwood. Check out YouTube. There are always folks uploading full episodes. That's where I catch my Dr. Who sometimes and I just checked and there is Torchwood season 2 on-line. Legally???? lolol

Night/Day Watch are coming out on blu-ray in September. I haven't seen them yet, so I'll check them out then.

Most of my favorite sci-fi movies were pretty big so you've almost certainly seen them. My favorite TV show was Babylon 5 (1st season was a bit weak and the movies are mediocre, but all worth it I think). Also recently enjoyed Dr. Who, Firefly, Dresden Files (fantasy-ish, cancelled, 1/2 season like Firefly), Farscape, Andromeda (except for the last season).

If you want some silly British sci-fi, try out Red Dwarf. Eureka for silly American sci-fi.

The creator of Babylon 5 (J. Michael Straczynski) has been working on creating a new show with "two mega-film
makers". No news about it for a couple months though, so status is unknown.

Does this mean Straczynski is quitting the Spiderman comics and going back to TV? I was really hoping he would someday do an equivalent to Babylon 5-which was my favorite as well.

He has a lot of projects he is working on. In case you didn't know, he produced 2 1-hour movies on 1 disc last year, Babylon 5: The Lost Tales. They weren't great, but if you are in need of some B5.
