One of my favorites is Atlantic City, which I think is one of Burt Lancaster's finest performances, and also notable for rescuing Susan Sarandon's career from relative obscurity. It's a small film, but pretty terrific.
I went on a bit of a Bunuel binge a few months ago, and my favorite was Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie- it was like watching theater of the absurd but cleverly filmed. I also watched The Object of Desire, interesting primarily because the leadi...
It was hard for me to believe that The Decalougue was a TV series- it felt like a first rate film. I know many people are fans of the 3 colors films, but The Decalogue was one of the best discoveries I have made since joining Netflix. Kieslowski's...
I have several favorite Bergman films, but perhaps my favorite film of all time is "Fanny and Alexander". Beautifully shot and realized from beginning to end. I think its one of the best films ever made about what it means to be part of a family, ...
I love movies because I love watching people. I thrive in psychoanalyzing characters!!! I know... I am one of those people! LOL That's why I have troubles relating to Bergman's or Malle's earlier movies. I feel they lack expressed emotions - or at least the way I think they should express it. I tried Seventh Seal and didn't get it. Would you care to explain that film a bit?
I watched Cries and Whispers... also didn't get it. I read Ebert's review and tried to piece what I watched and still find it very confussing. Hah!
I have not attempted Portrait of a Marriage, I will look into that.
BiffWorld, I am a huge Kieslowski fan... watched everything he wrote and directed. Blue is my most favorite of the Three Colors, Red comes in close second. I love The Double Lives of Veronique. I do need to watch it again before writing a review on it. I have watched the entire of The Decalogue once.. have to do it again and write individual review for each episode. I recently saw Heaven. It was written by Kieslowski, to be the first installment of a trilogy he was working on before he died. Cate Blanchett is in it, awesome - if you're a Kieslowski fan.
I am checking out French New Wave genre... so far I found I don't get Malle, but I like some Truffaut stuffs. I am trying some Ingmar Bergman films also, again I only like Autumn Sonata so far. I love Wong Kar Wai's My Blueberry Nights, and look forward to watching In The Mood For Love. If it is anything like My Blueberry Nights, I will like it - a feast for the eyes.
BiffWorld, so you are a Truffaut fan? Seen The 400 Blows?
What good foreign films have you seen lately? I saw an interesting movie called Walk On Water, good movie with beautiful sceneries and a strong message for peace.
Thanks for adding me to your Friends list. I see you're friends with Parrotluver too.
