Just watched Butterflies starring Wendy Craig a comedy from the 70's... it was too subtle and "grown-up for me at the ripe old age of 20. It is perfect the second time around funny and smart.

Long live Netflix, my source for a taste of home.

I have cable but my local cable company will not provide BBC America. I'm sure if they did it would cost me more than the $16.99 a month I pay to Netflix who can provide me with anything worth watching from this side of the pond or the other. Netflix has broadened my movie horizons making the best of (or worst) film, televsion, docs, and offerings from all four corners of the globe available when I want it. I love Netflix. Cable sucks.

Mort, wow, what a great idea, I will definitely be a customer for that product. What is your avatar from? Is it a BBC kids show? I have to confess that I recently changed cable companies and now have verizon fios. So I am wallowing in Cash in the attic and Bargain hunt, which both give me large doses of dinky villages and picturesque towns in England that do not resemble in any shape or form smoky old Manchester where I grew up (LOL) I listen to NPR in my basement whilst washing the clothes; its the most intellectual I feel all week. :).

Thanks for the invitation. I just read about your cable. It seems like you and I have the same thought: with Netflix, I don't really need cable and it costs far too much. (I'd rather give the money to NPR.) BBC America is good, but it seems to me that most of the BBC stuff worth watching ends up on DVD anyhow, except stuff like Changing Rooms and Ground Force. What would be really cool is if the UK government let us pay their TV licence fee (£139.50/yr) for our computers so that we could watch the BBC live or delayed on line.

Thank you for the invite. If you haven't seen August Rush, I just watched it last night and thought it was great. Great movie about music.

I have not seen History Boys. I just watched this movie called The Children's Hour with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MCClain. It was about teachers who have a BAD SEED student who accuses them of being lesbians, showing how gossip and slander can ruin lives. From a play by lillian hellman. Interesting, but not a feel good movie. So now I am watching, The Farmer's Daughter with Loretta Young and Joseph Cotton. Love this movie, kind of a woman's version of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. We have also had beautiful weather in the 70's or so. We Northwesterners must enjoy every sunny day!
Take care,
CBee

I just finished watching To Serve Them All of My Days which you have probably seen as it is BBC. I loved it very much. 4 Discs but so wonderful!! The teacher stories always my faves as that was what I went to school for and have practiced in y life.

Some of those pics are from Five Islands, ME. Everything on the coast of ME is wonderful. Not exactly Cornwall but still rugged coast. Bar Harbor is too touristy to my taste. Try to go before or after the "fall colour" tourist surge occurs. It can be quite cozy (even Bar Harbor) in winter and the lobster is always tasty.

By the way, We all have our own writing styles and I believe what some may think silly others enjoy because it gives a personal glimpse of who you are and why you are writing. I see you are very concise and that is great. I don't just write to please people but as an expression. Everyone may not agree with my observations but then they can disagree and write their own reviews with their opinions. However, I try to be very fair and as positive as I can unless I hated the movie, which is usually rare. Thanks for listening.

I did not enjoy that movie because I wanted to know more about Daphne's life other than just her sexual orientation. I know her father played an important role in her life and there was so much more they could have delved into, like why she was never very well accepted as a writer, etc. I really did not care much about the two women characters that the movie revolved around. The acting was good, but script not that great for me.

I purchased MRS MINIVER years ago and love rewatching it. I love Greer Garson, such a lady, and she is also paired with Walter Pidgeon. They made several movies together, were very natural together. I love the part about the little man who wants to name a rose after her. It is so sweet.
