Getting To Know Me

There are only three things that you really need to know about me. Unfortunately, none of them are listed here.
  • I'm a member of 8 different people groups, including 3 I've never heard of.
  • I have a cotton T-shirt folded neatly and wedged into the southwest corner of my appendix. It doesn't hurt, but I can always tell when it's foggy out. It also means that I'm never ever truly naked.
  • I wrote the outline for the first draft of the Dayton Peace Accord. Weird thing is, I was actually in Hoboken at the time.
  • Due to the way that I comb my hair, people who walk past me at just the right velocity are able to hear what sounds like an oboe playing the Pina Colada Song. But to them it sounds like it's coming from across the street, and most people enjoy it.
  • My sweat glands are bionic. A couple of weeks ago I ran up 3 flights of stairs, and upon opening the door I incapacitated a young adult who got in the path of my perspiration. He couldn't eat solid food for over an hour.
  • English is my second language; my mother tongue is Esperanto.
  • Several years ago, I was intentionally walked by Nolan Ryan, Gaylord Perry, Dennis Martinez, Joaquin Andujar, and Dwight Gooden in the same game. To this day, they all still refuse to speak to me.
  • I accidentally invented the Thigh Master one day while I was changing the oil in my sister's car. That is why all of the joints on an authentic Thigh Master are red with "STP" stamped on them.
  • I have the world's largest collection of toilet seat covers, which is currently touring Eastern Europe.
  • I was a key witness in the first case ever presided over by Judge Wapner.
  • I was the first person to ever solve the Rubik's Cube. I still have the scars to prove it.
  • I am erroneously credited as the Aerobics Coordinator at the end of the movie "The Breakfast Club". I was actually an Assistant to the Head Caterer.
  • In every photograph ever taken of me, it looks like I'm wearing an earring.
  • I am no longer welcome to the city of Bismarck, North Dakota, due to a misunderstanding about my middle name.
  • All letters addressed to "Mister Bojangles" are delivered to my home address by the US Postal Service.
  • I am able to erase magnetic tapes by simply sitting on them for 15 minutes.
  • Every year, I am responsible for turning on the lights in the locker rooms for the first game of the NBA season. For doing so, an honorary donation is made to local public radio in my name.
  • I am a licensed court reporter.
  • Warning labels were recently placed on all cappuccino machines because of me, though most of them are hidden on the machine's underside.
  • I'm in the direct line of ascendancy to the throne of Nebraska.
  • My personal estate includes seven psychedelic paintings of various animals shopping for furniture painted by Thurgood Marshall, as well as a slinky I found at a friend's house.

I have not seen Synecdoche New York yet...it is good then? Sweet. I hadn't heard much about it and I usually don't search after what the critics have to say. I'm definitely going to check it out.

I had forgotten that Netflix had Ashes of Time available before the Redux - that must have been how I saw it - I can't imagine where else I would have found a copy to watch back then. I don't remember much about watching it back then, except for w...

Ashes of Time is actually my favorite Wong Kar-wai film, even before the redux was released. The Redux is certainly a great improvement over lots of the crappier releases that have been out there, and I've already got it pre-ordered on DVD. Just c...

Did you see the Ashes of Time Redux? I didn't care for Ashes of Time at all the first time I saw it, but the first time I saw the Redux I noticed so much complexity I had missed the first time around. It's still not at the top of my list of WKW mo...

Before Volver, I had only seen one other Almodovar film. Since then I've been going back through his catalog - so many great movies. Volver, All About My Mother, and Live Flesh are 5-star movies in my book.

Have you seen Synecdoche New York yet? I think Kaufman did a remarkable thing with that movie - I don't know if any other movie has captured my imagination the way that movie did. But I'm right there with you - I think Eternal Sunshine is number t...

Hey Staahsha, yeah I've been quiet lately I guess. What do you think of Dogme 95? It seems like a creative equivalent of asceticism, in a way, except for the fact that no filmmaker defined themselves by the movement. That would no doubt be a tough...

So it turns out that I have seen another Katsuhito Ishi movie. It was Shark skin man Peach Hip Girl. I gave it four stars, can't seem to remember the movie right now though. I added Funky Forest the first contact though.

You know I don't even remember why I decided to watch the Taste of Tea, I was in my queue forever but I read a good review on it and finally queued it to the top. But your right it was amazing. I've been meaning to check out the some more of that directors movies. Actually I'll go see what else NF has right now. Thanx for the reminder.

yeah definitely.. i would let u know when i see it... uff... i have an awful exhaustive queue of 500 ... i dont know when will i finish them.. ha ha.. For me i personally like the directors in the past 50 years nothing against contemporary directors but i feel they are great and still timeless which i dont see in the contemporary cinema.. I see that ur fav list have quiet recent ones.. please check out the directors of the past like Godard, Kurosawa, Bergman, Bresson, Fassbinder etc..

By the way u should have come across Mike Leigh.. right?? None of his films your favourite?? I see u are a Wong Kar Wai fan.... me tooo!!!.. his movies absolutely great... imo the best romantic director .... Have u seen Days of being Wild of his??

BTW, do you have a real sister??? I mean blood related, not Netflix related???

Yes, it's a gorgeous autumn day here as well. I will take both my boys, the one on the leash and on the bike out to a trail. Yep, I am catching the Vandy-Auburn game too. Are you rooting for Vandy at all?

I am looking forward to watching Wings. Gosh, Richie, I got so many movies stacked on my desk.. don't even know which one to see first. I'm on first name basis with the circulation people at my local library that they let me get away with borrowing beyond the limits. I think it's 10 movies, but I have 16!!!!

As for Spare Parts... I give it 5/5 stars because of the story. It's no WKW, so don't expect great cinematography. The story itself is on the raw side in my opinion, but that's what makes it so poignant.

OK, Richie Friend, time to get the boys out before starting dinner! TTYL.

Richie Friend, where are you???
Busy weekend??

Thanks for the head's up for Wings! I've gotten some good movies from the library... don't know when I will get to them all.

Sis works for me, a cousin twice removed.... nah... too long. I do like calling you Richie Friend, since Richie Bro doesn't sound right. LOL...

Wow.. when are you going to watch football???

Broken English has so much potential, Parker Posey is mesmerizing, but I feel the story, espcially towards the end kind of insults my intelligence... however little I have. The lost phone number??? Oh come on.... for the sake of all the barnacles!!! If I have to go to a different continent, to a place where I don't even speak the language.... and trust me on this, I will make darn sure I don't lose an important phone number. Did she write it on a gum wrapper or something??? That's a too much of a stretch for me to believe.. that's when the movies just took a sharp dive. It's really too bad because the chemistry between Nora and Julien is believeable.

Be With Me - I think it is a Taiwanese movie - uses the cinematography to tell the stories. I think you might like it. It comprises of three stories and the people are somehow interconnected. It has minimal dialogues and there is a woman (one of the character) kind of narrating her story. The premise of the stories are about loving and unrequited loves. It's rather depressing, but thought provoking to a certain degree. I can't decide if I really like it or not.

I know we're supposed to chat 'over there', but gosh it's so hard to talk about things discussed here, over there... n'est-ce pas? Richie, Friend, guess we just have to keep playing tag...

So, you're back in town? What are you watching this weekend? I have been watching some 'good but not that good' kind of movies... I hope I watch something really good soon. Let see.. there were Broken English which I don't like, Light of My Eyes, Almost Peaceful.. and a quirky movie called Be With Me. I have The Illusionist, The Other Booow Weeevil, and Charlote Gray this weekend.
