Hands off!

This article struck a nerve with me (actually multiple nerves, but I'll just pick one):

Frames Per Second Magazine; "Fund Animators not Adaptations"

There's a whole rash of anime that's being turned into live-action movies by Hollywood. As an anime fan who also happens to be an American comic fan who's witnessed the horrific trainwrecks. Hollywood can produce when they re-interpret a medium, this fill… Continue

I've only watched...

Ever see one of these reviews for a multi-disc series show up:

"I've only watched [the first disc | first episode | first 10 minutes] and [love | hate] this series!."

The thing with series is that it's not uncommon for them to start weak. Keep moving through and hopefully you'll see the writers hit their stride, and the actors get comfortable with their roles, and suddenly you get what all the hype (if there was any) was about. The reverse happens too -- a show starts of with such a great conc… Continue

Wither the movie theater.

This kinda ties into my last post about family friendly movies. I read this discussion, which turned out more interesting that I thought it would be:

http://community.netflix.com/forum/topics/why-i-dont-go-to-movies

Back in the day, having a decent home theater was pretty rare. Having a big(ish) TV, a .1 stereo that could decode surround sound, a VCR/LD/VD system that could support surround sounds, and the speakers to back it up was pretty much the domain of audio/video-philes and/or geeks.

I… Continue

Anime and it's side effects.

A little bit of background first.

We, at the Suquamish residence, like to have family movie night.

However, most of what gets offered up a serviceable family content for movies usually ends up not being very family friendly. I have a novel concept of what I consider good family content -- it's got to engage the entire family.

I do not sit the kids down in front of the TV while I go do other things -- which is what a lot of people seem to think "family friendly" movies are for. So, if I… Continue

musing on reviews and vengeance

Netflix providing the ability to rate a review as "helpful" or "not helpful" is fairly cool (and standard) feature, but I wonder how many people use it as a tool to actually critique the value of any particular review?

If you wander by movies that have a particularly strong fan following and actually go through the reviews, you'll see a honest-to-goodness bad reviews where someone decided that something like "This disk woudn't play when I inserted into my… Continue

Ah, yes. I got a similar response when I last rubbed the Buddha's belly with that question in mind ;)

It was indeed...spotted it in your profile when I was perusing through the site the other night, thought you'd like an angel over your shoulder ;)

I'm okay...lucky to have a job, they keep switching my position and supposedly the powers that be shall soon be letting go of someone else and putting me in their position and shutting my department down. Wow, after I typed that, I realized how lucky I really am. It's a good thing that the company I am with really values good customer service, that's what is keeping me from needing to go to the unemployment line.

I really feel for you...got a couple of friends in the same boat. Its hard. I did read an article that said one of the best ways to network your way into a job is to do some volunteer work and get to know your fellow do-gooders...you never know if they are in charge of hiring at their firm. At the very least it shows you were productive even without getting paid when you do get interviews.

Best to you, my friend... :)

Dam you're good, very good. Lemme guess, you're the type of person that if someone asked you to find the gates leading to the lost city of Shambala, you'd lead them right to the door.

So was it a picture or a photo?
