Kill Bill -

So - What does this group think of the "Kill Bill" movies? Are they well written homages that breathe new life into some of our favorite films or are they simple robberies of the classics of Japanese cinema that are nothing but remakes?

I really do lean on the side that they are masterpieces in their own right although I can appreciate the other side. He does get "inspiration" from Leone as well as just about every exploitation samurai / kung fu flick ever made. The fact that he doesn't hide it and talks openly about the original films keeps me on his side. When you add in his scripts and direction it makes for a real nice package.

Just thought your thoughts on them might be interesting...

Reservoir Dogs was a ripoff of City on Fire. A very good ripoff, but hey...Keitel, Roth, Buscemi. An uncredited ripoff.

I just saw Lady Snowblood - Awesome!
I hear the second one pales in comparison....is this true?

I want to see a swordfight between Lady Snowblood and O-ren Ishii. That would rock - and it would be a good fight since they are the same character.

The second one is not as good as the first but, if you dug the first one, it's worth a watch.

i loved kill bill. work of art indeed. sorry i got a thing for katannas and martial arts. but ya, i heard rumor from my producer ex-boss when the vol2 came out of a 3rd to be filmed in 10 years. supposed to be about copperhead's daughter. and the reason they were gonna wait 10 years is cuz they were gonna use the same actress. **shrugs**.. any truth to that? i would love to see it..

The rumor is indeed true. I think even Tarantino has talked about it.
In the end - I would still be kind of suprised to ever see it actually happen. 10 years is a long time and Tarantino is kind of a flighty guy.

I loved both films as well.

My understanding is that Daryl Hannah's character would train the kid to then face Bea. I just dont need to see that - the story feels complete to me the way it is.
If you want to see some of the foundation Kill Bill is built upon I would strongly suggest "Lady Snowblood". It is an excellent little revenge film from the seventies and a fav of Mr. Tarantino. You will see a lot of Kill Bill in it.
There are others but it might be the most obvious. Watch Lady Snowblood and listen to Leone's dollar trilogy score and you will begin to see where Kill Bill came from.
