I agree, they would have to take it in a new direction. Ferrara barely got away with the Catholic redemption angle the first time. It was Keitel who sold the premise. (I loved the Jesus with the swimsuit tanlines in that one vision he has.)
Don Juan De Marco

Everything in this movie is mediocre.

The casting: Placing the hopelessly obese Brando against Faye.

The costumes are poor.

This movie has no clue where is going : it's not sure if its a romantic comedy or an erotic thriller.

If you have to watch everything that Depp does well then feel free... but if your lurking for a good-time.. ..good night.

Matt!
Wow, I absolutely loved this movie and thought it was the best thing I'd seen Brando do since Apocalypse Now.
He gives new meaning to phrase, "wide screen."
A few nights ago I watched The Boondock Saints which I really liked. Last night I watched Overnight 3 stars - the documentary about Troy Duffy, the writer/director of The Boondock Saints. Duffy was a bartender whose script was bought by a major studio. He gets to Hollywood and runs into trouble with his ego. From the synopsis "Like a freight train careening out of control, the arrogant Duffy -- once considered Hollywood's new wunderkind -- burns all his bridges, alienating his colleagues, his friends and his long-suffering brother, Taylor." This is one egotistical dude that screwed up bad but the documentary is interesting with some scenes of the movie being filmed.

Tonight I watched - Masters of Horror: Stuart Gordon: Dreams in the Witch House - 3 stars. It's an H.P. Lovecraft story and done pretty well.
I posted here on MOH a few hours earlier, it's nice that most are available on IW. Dreams in the Witch house is the only one I wasn't too impressed with so far...
MOH is really hit or miss. Most of them are middle of the road, but a few have been really good.
Tonight is Buckalew night at the ranch -

Just watched again(but it's that good) Luis Buneul's Viridiana - a wonderfully satirical look at religion through the eyes of a nun who is about to say her final vows; and is forced to thank her uncle for all the help; but the uncle has another way to repay her...

Now I just need to see the Criterion cut of it.
Thanks for reminding me of Viridiana. Saw it as part of a double bill in a repertory theatre more than two decades ago.
The only thing I remember now is that I really liked it then so I'm going to add it to my queue tonight.
I just watched the 1st disk of the 1st season of "TORCHWOOD" from the BBC. It is a series about a mysterious individual called Captain Jack--an American who is actually from our future--but who seems to have been around London during the Blitz in World War 2! Capt. Jack leads a small group (5) of people who investigate various incredible alien incursions that seem to cross over into our world through a dimensional rift that is located in the general area of Cardiff (Wales) England. Capt. Jack is a man of mystery--he can't be killed--no one knows his place or time of origin (other than he is from the U.S.) and he possesses a special container that seems to contain a severed hand that is still alive. The Torchwood group is answerable to no authority or no national or extra-national power! Their only mission seems to be the interpretation and control of entities that originate off earth!

This series seems to have a lot of promise--it has a wide scope for plot development and the producers have the daring and the imagination to explore that scope to its full potential!
It is in it's 2nd season on BBC America and the 1st season is available from Netflix!
instant watch today.

Wicked Stepmother This may be Larry Cohen's worst movie ever, but it is still a damn sight more enjoyable than the "so-so" efforts of most filmmakers. Bette Davis looks like a mummy that's been exposed to the air a bit too long, but her screen presence is still profound, for the little screen time she has. Larry must have haf a rewrite prepared, because when Davis quit the project, the cameras rolled on, with the spirit of Davis's character inhabiting the body of Barbara Carrerre. The cast is packed with old timers -- Tom Bosley, Seymour Cassel (hilariously campy), Lionel Stander, Richard Moll, Evelyn Keyes -- who all seem delighted to be working, and generate sufficient spark to keep the cornball script rolling. plotholes and truly awful effects in the pseudo-cataclysmic Poltergeist-style ending do not stand up to snuff, but if you are enjoying the silliness, as I did, that won't spoil it.

Conviction: The Complete Series (2006)

Perfect for a TV binge (without taking over your life) is this "Law And Order" spin-off that lasted 12 eps in 2006. The life and loves of young prosecutors in the NYC DA office, each show concerns 2 to 4 crisis cases, interwoven with the love lives and personal back stories of the fledgling prosecutors.

Years ago, when he was working on "Hill Street Blues," I was able to get Dick Wolf on the phone, and talk to him for about 30 minutes about his first big TV job, as story editor on "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", also on IW.

He was gracious and modest (and shocked that anyone wanted to talk about Kolchak), so I've been delighted to see his career explode as it has in the past few years. With a much richer personal dimension than most of his other series, I think Conviction would have developed into his best, if it had been given time.
