Things you remember that no one in the next generation can identify...

Since we've been getting all nostalgic, I've started thinking about things that my son has only seen in movies or wouldn't recognize if I held them up before him.

TV dial tuner
UHF/VHF
Original remotes (they actually turned the dial)
Dial telephone (I had to explain what a princess phone was)
Stick pins
Leg Warmers
45 records
Car phones (the installed kind, along with bag phones)
Dickies (the fake turtleneck kind)

These things all seem sooooo old and so long ago that they make me feel ancient. What do you remember from your house/closet that could show up on Antiques Roadshow looking for identification?

How about, making prank phone calls. I still remember, the sinking feeling in my gut, the first time, the operator called me back, and lectured me on proper use of the phone, after stupidly, trying to prank her.

Acid washed jeans

Game systems I owned, as a youth:
Atari 2600, Coleco Vision, Intelevision(with computer keyboard, and voice synth module), Nintendo NES.

Does anyone remember playing Tanks, on the Atari, and driving the nose of one tank, into the rear of the other, just to see the tanks whip around in circles?

has anyone mentioned beepers yet? I was at the movies with my niece then 14. and before the previews there's the "please turn off your cell phone and pagers now" announcement. She asked me what a "beeper" was..she thought the announcement refered to her cellphone's "one beep" alert when receiving a text message.

I am surprised they even mention pagers anymore. They made the announcement today before the start, and sure enough, somebody's phone went off 5 min into the movie. I can understand forgetting, but when they remind you....

I know! they should use Reverse Psychology. People tend to do the apposite of what they are told. Notice when going somewhere and the door reads "PUSH" people Pull and viceversa. Says NO SMOKING, NO EATING, NO TALKING, WET PAINT, DON'T FEED THE ANIMALS, AND DON'T ENCOURAGE MS. SPEARS and people sure enough do it.
they should launch an announcement:
'Please turn on your cell phones to the highest volume level with the tackiest ringtone. if you have a baby please sit on the middle. please talk and critique the movie as it plays. talking back to the actors is encouraged. fart noises and lough coughing permitted. Please turn on your pagers. enjoy your movie!"

Segregation:

My little cousin 7 years old was watching HairSpray and at the end when the TV host announces that the show will now be Intergrated she asked "what does that mean" and her mom answered "means you can now play with Carol's kids" (Carol is our african american neighbor who found this to be both funny and disturbing).

The other day i saw a kid on a skateboard cruising through an intersection by holding onto the back of a pick-up truck. I smiled and called out "Hello?, McFly! His expression of puzzled disinterest reminded me, "Yep, I'm gettin' old!"

I guess 30 is not old enough. Sheesh. I'm getting old, too.

C'mon guys, you know, George McFly from Back To The Future?
Marty McFly's (Michael Fox) famous scene where he hitches a ride to school on his skateboard? Back then, this was a really outragous and CRAAAAAAZY thing to do!
And for a good decade or so people would reference the line when George McFly (Crispin Glover) was getting a noogie.
"Helloooo?, ...MCFLYYYYY?"
This was done either to just reference the movie itself, or to imply that someone was being spacey or forgetful.
Geez, I should make this a Wikipedia reference or something...
