I had a few beers with Alec Baldwin several years ago. I taught at Southampton College and he was involved in teaching a summer theater course there. I was surprised at how funny he was (this was pre-30 Rock). He kept putting on different voices. But mostly he wanted to talk about environmental concerns in the Hamptons when he found out I was an environmental scientist.
I used to edit Fangoria, so I met too many movie guys to count, I was always annoyed that I never met Spielberg, though.

the best musicians I knew never made it. Folkie singer-songwriter Todd Oza Kelley was too insane, once a year would smash his 12-string Gibson and not have the funds to replace it for months.
Jerry Bernardinello, a virtuoso technician who saw lead guitar as mathematics, and frequently helped the Dolls with their guitar playing, went back to college and became an economist,
Free jazz pioneer Giuseppe Logan, a reed player, pressed a couple of historic disks in the early 60s, then all the world lost track of him. I knew him for a while in the late 60s. still alive apparently.
Passed Bob Dylan in the street a couple of times
John Lennon and Yoko once. They smiled nicely at me.
I saw Ricky Nelson on Macdougal Street in 1967. His eyes were way dilated, and two friends were holding his arns as if guiding him. Seemed to be tripping.
Probably the sweetest celebrity contact I've had was with Kurt Vonnegut. He lived very close to Doubleday's office in NYC, and one of my first jobs in publishing was as a reader at Doubleday, where I also wrote paperback jacket copy. Vonnegut and I often passed in the street, and he couldn't have missed that I was always carrying a buttload of books to or from the vicinity of DD's offices. He would always give me a friendly nod as we passed one another.
didn't shake Macca's hand. I was sharing an office with Danny Fields, and was kicked out so Paul could visit with Danny alone.
Danny and I were co-editors of a music magazine. Danny is a tremendously likeable guy, but the magazine failed because he kept undermining my efforts. Still, I can't gloat over his current troubles.
Others are certainly celebrating though ... Danny did have a rep for offering to help bands that would help get him laid (though the stories I heard did not suggest he was a pedo).
