Ack! Very cool! Hands down best NIN concert I ever went to was in 1991 during PHM days when they were playing small clubs. Patrick on guitar, Vrenna on drums, Trent singing his heart out to Something I Can Never Have ... sigh
As for Trent Reznor, hold on to your hats.
He went to Allegheny College the same time I did. He was in a band with three of my fraternity brothers, and they would play at our house. Here's the tidbit that Trent would never want known - he received "a bid" to join our fraternity in 1984. How very uncool! But he dodged that bullet. I dimly recall going to his apartment to sound him out about joining and being politely turned down.
At the time, they were performing cover songs and I recall being very impressed by his singing. He dressed more darkly than the preppies he was surrounded by and was somewhat of a loner, but really not all that odd. I think he grew up not too far south of Allegheny in Grove City (aka nowhere Pennsylvnia).
Nah, she was rushed out the door with Ogre (when he was touring with them on the symbols album and the song Spit Sperm). I did hang out with Tim Skold (who was shocked that I knew who Shotgun Messiah was) and En Esch which was very interesting to say the least. He is one tall, skinny, bald German dude. I was friends of a friend at the time with Tom "Servo" DeSalvo (Haloblack, 16 Volt, Chemlab or as I like to say Industrial Hired Gun Drummer) he had done a remix for my first band and knew the guys in my band pretty well.
I asked him if I could direct his next movie. He laughed, I laughed and then I looked him in the eye and said "no, really someone took a million dollar risk on you to do Hellraiser how about you take a million dollar risk on me?" His jaw fell to the floor and he told me to find somebody younger!
