Although GG was first, it made me wonder if the creator of SATC took the story line from GG and revamped it with younger characters.
Well the SATC television series was based on the novel by Candace Bushnell. She based her novel on a collection of her own newspaper articles, which were basically her observations of upper echelon NY party-goers, published in a NY paper. She is Carrie, that’s how the characters and initial storyline were created. HBO picked it up and ran with it from there. The actual producer of the SATC series, Alexa Junge , was a writer for Friends just before SATC premiered on HBO. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that GG and Friends were among her influences.
Simply answering your question, I can totally picture the SATC ladies going Golden. I can picture it but I don’t want to actually see it ;-)
I have to admit I love the golden girls and I still catch them once in awhile on the Lifetime network. As far as comparing them, I never got into SATC. I've seen maybe a 1/2 an episode.
In my opinion there is no comparison between the two. Golden Girls is by far the better of the two, I tried (really hard) to sit through an episode of SATC and it was just completely non interesting.
OTOH, if I'm simply channel surfing and find a channel with GG on it, even if its the last few minutes… I can stop, knowing that even in those last few moments I will be titillated and amused.
Im watching some Golden Girls episodes today, and thought "wow, this is too much like SATC".
Actually that should be the other way around seeing as GG came first.
