Now copying a list verbatim,I think most would agree, is totally wrong. But what about if you see a list namecategory that you didn't think of before and like the idea. For example a list called Movies with Monkeys, which you look at and it has just monkeys in it.. Now you don't copy that list but start your own but you add anything primate - monkeys, gorillas, etc. Your list may have a little bit, some or a lot in common with that first list but it also has your own flavor because of the added films you put in. Is it bad form to even emulate the idea? Chances are even if you dont see it you may be doing a list that someone else has done just to the sheer number out there. Plus if its a specific enough list category it may likely have exactly the same films. Should you feel bad about that?

Not at work or if I'm doing anything that needs my utter concentration (everything).

Can't argue with you there. BTW, I sent you a message.

Will get to it when I can. Hurricane may not be too bad after all it seems.

You're in the vicinity? Is everything okay with you?
Houston. Looks like we may be on the edge of the cone but Mon-Wed (even Fri) will tell.

But what about if you see a list namecategory that you didn't think of before and like the idea.

Someone in the top 10 (who I don't think is a Ning regular, if even a member) copied one of my lists. And added one additional title, to "make it his/her own." Uncool.

I've avoided looking at this person's other lists just because it might make me fume even more.

What was the subject? When I notice a movie someone's missing, I suggest it to him/her to add. I usually don't start a list unless I have the time to independently research it somewhat or extensively so that (whether it is "ever-growing" or "comprehensive") it's quite longer than any that might precede it. (IMDB keyword and filming location searches are a huge help.)

Oh yeah, IMDB helps. Wikipedia has categorys at the bottom of their movie pages that list all movies in a particular category and can be much more specific.

Oh, it wasn't you, Robo! Someone I'm pretty sure doesn't visit here.

The list is too specific for me to mention -- there are only two like it on the site! (That I know of.) And it's a "taste" list, not really a "research" or "completist's" list, which is why I'm pretty darn sure the duplicate was not arrived at independently.

I started a Lists thread, to catalog alphabetically the lists that have been made. What do you think of the idea?

Sounds great but a huge amount of work that would be a bear to accomplish.

To start with, we would need to decide which members have great lists - and get those up there in the list. Basically there would be the list name - any notes as to what kind and anything else that would help if title alone doesn't do justice and of course the author of the list. I think that if people saw what's in the list, it would avoid the need for many repetitive lists.

So, do we have the first 10 list makers?

Here's the thread: Lists, Lists, and More Lists
